Hi,
I've added some grime and junk to the room and i wonder if it looks anymore realistic. Input from yesterday was clutch and i used it, anymore ideas though.
Thanks

IMO, you should make the joints between the tiles and the areas where the walls and the floor meet look dirtier. That's where all the grime would collect in a real life dirty building. At the moment it looks like a nice clean room with some dirty bits painted on.

Its getting better, more believeable than that 1st version of this. the brown dirt stain is a bit much, less and toned down would look better.

SamTherapy is right--dirt, dust and liquids (we will NOT go into what types of liquids ;) all tend to accumulate mostly right where the floors and walls meet and in corners. If you do a search in Free Stuff, using ernyoka1 you'll find dozens of trash and litter type props (look at her earliest contributions) that are great to litter urban sets with...and I think I recall a nice graffitti-scrawled brick wall and a section of sidewalk, too.

Depending on what graphics program you're using, take advantage of the texture and brush options to give the grime and dirt some dimension.

I'm learning Photoshop and have used copyright-free photos of rock textures, made them semitransparent, desaturated the colors and then used them as randomly-textured 'grunge' layers over floor and wall textures. I erase away most of it, leaving some in corners and anywhere that surfaces would normally collect dirt.

Patricia, he HAS used my stuff :o) The beer can, blanket and newspaper are mine ;o) That idea with rock textures is brilliant, I'll try that next time I am griming something. It is definately looking better. The brown stain is TOO brown though. Try playing with layers and transparency, can give nice effects. On the pic at the link you can see examples of both grafitti and dirt made that way - on a somewhat transparent layer. Remember that walls - even in basements - often get something green and icky creeping up the walls from the floor.
