Subject: Steffy ZZ Asia

Can anyone tell me if she still has all those conditions on her stuff? I noticed that her store is on sale and I thought about getting Asia, but if she still has all those rules, I would just assume pass on her. Another thing I would like to know... How come she does not have a link to her readme files. Everyone else does. How is it possible to know her conditions of use before you buy it?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Wed, 06 August 2003 at 8:30 PM

All the Renderosty MarketPlace items that you purchase has the same licence in the readme.txt You buy it, you cannot resell it, put it in a CD compolation, Warezed it or post flat files of any textures etc. but other than that, have at it. you can IM Clint or Steffy about that cor clarification. I own one of Steff's packages for Victoria 2 that is not sold here, it's at her site. there wasn't any weird things about the licence that I saw, pretty much the standard licence.

kayjay97 ( ) posted Wed, 06 August 2003 at 8:54 PM

SAme here. I own all her textures and unless you try to pass it off as your own, sell it, etc, the license is standard as every one else's.

Her textures are amazing, it would be a shame if you did not get them. I have alot of them too and love them all. Sharen

Doesn't she usually have one clause that states you may not buy her items as a gift for someone else? Doesn't she use this policy to aggressively and publicly seek out suspected pirates?

True you may not buy her items as a gift, according to the license on her website.

Doesn't she use this policy to aggressively and publicly seek out suspected pirates?

Hey Ronk..ya got any links to back up this assumption? Or are you just trying to stir up some shit again?

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 11:51 AM

Unfortunately Seffy's textures are pirated and used as bases for other texture packs, and she does aggressively try and thwart this activity. Unfortunate problem of having high quality items that people want. There was old history with Seffy's licence and this site, thats no long an issue. Her site clearly states what can and cannot be done with her textures.

her licence for her textures at her site are not a problem for me either, I bought one of them (kelma and suelma) and she lets you modify them etc for your own use... you just can't redistribute them. The license is standard. I think she just doesn't want to deal with the gift thing as its hard to track who has actually bought it then, and that's her perogative. but if you want to read it... here it is. -- LICENSE FOR PRODUCTS PURCHASED THROUGH THE ZETASTUDIOS3D STORE. This license relates only to products purchased through ZETASTUDIOS3D Store, it does not relate to any product featured in the "ZETASTUDIOS3D free area" section. If ZETASTUDIOS3D can show that any of the original material (in part or in whole) can be extracted from Buyer's derivative work, ZETASTUDIOS3D can demand both the original and derivative work, and all copies thereof be deleted. For example, Buyer cannot make an image of a texture map mapped to a flat plane, such that the original texture map can be cut & pasted from the image. ZETASTUDIOS3D can request the purchase data under special circumstances if necessary. You know, other merchants have stuff stolen too and they don't pull this kind of nonsense. I refuse to purchase from her. And guess who defines 'special circumstances'. Sheesh

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 5:51 PM

ummmm that clause lets her revoke the licence if you warez or violate the licence she will pull your right to use the stuff. Pretty standard licence. read a Microsoft licence sometime, it's far worse. you have every right to decide if you want to purchase or not. however her licence is not out of the ordinary, I've bought things that have a far more restrictive licence in the wording, hers is pretty leanant, just leaves a clause so that if she has proof she can revoke the licence and have it inforced cause it's in the licence agreement. really not that big a deal. whatever.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 5:54 PM

your call. I save all the information on my purchases for tax purposes, myself. So I keep it anyway. I'm sure its for the usual thing - people stealing her textures. If you don't like the license, its your perogative not to buy from her. I personally have no problem as I keep this data anyway, for everything I buy, including Stefania. Its come in handy on occasion with Daz, when I've accidently lost stuff I bought there. But any merchant, whether its spelled out in the license or not, is going to ask for this data if its possible that the textures were stolen and being used in a commercial product of some kind.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 5:58 PM

Her textures are still some of the best out there. Her Kelma/Suelma are the best African textures for a woman I've yet to have ever seen made for Poser. Ever. The extremely high quality is more than worth it.

Spit ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:04 PM

OF COURSE it's my call, OF COURSE she has the right to put it in her license, OF COURSE I keep records too, and OF COURSE it's her way of trying to discourage people from stealing. The point is the attitude. Even if I purchased a texture from her I would never ever display an image in the galleries with it for fear of having her accuse me of stealing because she misread my name, or I posted under a different name, or any other reason she could come up with. I don't need the hassle. Even if innocent who wants to take the chance of being accused.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:05 PM

I know lots and lots of people that use her textures and this has never happened to them. I'm sure Stefania hasn't got the time to go through the galleries looking for every single picture to see if ... maybe ... one of her textures has been used. Is this just another 'beat up another vendor to give myself more advertising' thread?

Spit ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:09 PM

Excuse me? Do I sell anything? I've been around too long and seen too many blowups regarding this situation. I'll pass on her textures. Thank you very much.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:14 PM

Answer: Asia is under Renderosity license, and so that license applies here, as it does for every single other thing you buy from the Marketplace. Answer: You can see the license for ZS3d stuff here, and its not any worse than anything you can see at DAZ. You want to talk about restrictive licenses... look at V2 and V3. Personally, I can understand Stefania's attitude after the number of times she's been ripped off. Stefania has been nothing but a fair and honest vendor to me, and I have no problems with her, speaking as one of her happy customers. I got nothing further to add... the rest can flame on.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:17 PM

Spit, its called 'personal attacks' ... and I've seen enough similar situations like this to understand how distorted people can make something like this, as its happened TO ME, elsewhere. Its obvious you just don't like her. That's all. I can see that. I don't run my mouth telling people not to buy from people I don't like, I have a bit more class than that. have a nice day.

Spit ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 6:47 PM

Nope. The personal attack was when you accused me of 'beating up another vendor to give myself more advertising.' That was really classy.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 7:01 PM

Blue Moon asked and started the thread. you two have taken over his thread and are very likely with the way it's going to get his thread locked. Please agree to disagree and leave at that.

Kendra ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2003 at 9:10 PM

As spit said, he's been around too long.
At one time there was a problem with the wording of the license. It was taken apart in the forums then as it wasn't right and was said to have been removed. Any concerns could easily be addressed directly to the merchant, I'm sure she'd answer any questions.

Blue Moon, I wouldnt worry too much. I say go ahead and buy Asia, its a great texture. In fact, I bought Yuma, Yazoo and Yoda just a couple of days ago, and bought the millennium girls just to use those textures. I was thrilled when her stuff went on sale. :o)
