Subject: Demo versions of software in Freestuff - Is this acceptable?

Ajax ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2003 at 6:22 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 2:49 AM

With the upcoming release of version 1.2 of EasyPose Underground and the corresponding price increase, I've been thinking of releasing a free demo version of the software. The demo would be crippled so that it can only save figures with very small numbers of body parts (say 4 or less). The idea is to give people the chance to try out the software, including seeing how well a simple saved figure works, so they can decide whether they want to invest in the commercial version. My question is, do you think it's OK to post something like that to the Freestuff section, or is that outside the bounds of what the Freestuff section is for?

go for it, there have been other demo versions in freestuff before.

I for one would love it. been interested in EasyPose and it would be a great way to test it out.

As said, other demos have been and are now in freestuff. I'm more inclined to purchase a product, when the maker offers a demo...go for it.

Ajax I think nearly every commercial Poser Utility/Application on the market has been posted as a limited demo in freestuff at some time or other.
Not to mention add-ons, extra files and free enhancements for other commercial products sold in the MP here and elsewhere.
How else would we know about them!

POST AWAY

If people don't have to pay to use the demo, it's free. Fits well in a Free Stuff area. ;-) Cheers! Cres the tired and slightly, hopefully not insultingly, flippant.

Just hope you have enough bandwidth! I don't now how big a program your EazyPose demo is, but you know there will be alot of downloads. ;)

I have put off purchasing EasyPose Underground becuase I never quite understood how t worked. I would certainly like to try the demo.

...time-bombed (30 days later it just up and dies), latched to Gator (or some other spyware BS), hard to uninstall (many shareware and demos in 'doze, when trying to prevent a re-install, tends to leave a righteous mess behind in the registry) or nagware, I'm cool with it meself. /P

Crescent ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 3:36 PM

So no demos of "Mother-In-Law version 2.0" for you?

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 3:52 PM

zackly (but I'll settle for demos that don't pop up windows demanding I buy the thing...) :) /P

macmullin ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 3:55 PM

I would love to see all the demos in the free section.

Thanks everybody. I knew it was within the rules, but I wanted to get an idea of how people feel about demos in freestuff. It sounds like most people are OK with it, so I'll finish up the demo and post it. It's a 5 meg download, so yes, bandwidth is going to be a problem. My allowance is 1 gig per month, so that's about 200 downloads per month, which is not a lot given the heat the freestuff section takes. We'll just have to see how it goes.
