Im on a reg. PC, OS = WINXP Pro. The error is "unable to read bronze.mat please remove it from your directory". There are MANY MANY more like this. I'm using Vue 4 with the latest updates. I also checked & they are Bryce5Presets. Thanks yet again....Debby

Like Gebe mentioned Bryce Presets are no good for Vue. So, if all the errorneous are Bryce Presets, you might as well delete them. Other possible situation (most case), either the texture map is missing or corrupted ... like wabe mentioned. You can get rid of those too. I usually pick my poison from download area, download, check in Vue right away, if it is good or I like, I place it where it belongs. It's a bit time consuming, but very organized order and saves lots of headache at later time. I also use WinXP pro; that thing itself is a theme park. So many times I had loading or reading errors in Vue. All I did was saved my work, closed Vue and open it again. And then it works fine. If the Freebie is in working order and Vue supported, you might keep an eye on O/S.

Nish, all my Material Presets are Bryce5Material Presets...that's how they are on my VUE disk.

If your computer is seeing the mats on the vue disk as bryce mats then perhaps it's an association issue. You may have to associate these files with something else. Having a quick look in my material folder, my computer reports all the original mats as microsoft access table shortcuts. I've not got bryce so I cannot tell. Other than an association thing I'm stumped, sorry.

I agree with Sentinal this is an association issue. If some of your Bryce materials work I would take a close look at why and see what is the difference between the ones that work and the ones that do not. Loading them in your user file may be a better way to go according to the Manuel however I have done both with no problems. Also if you can upload one of the materials that do not work and someone can take a closer look at it perhaps. I notice you are using Vue4, downloading the update to Vue4.12 maybe very helpful here and in many other areas of your program.

I agree with the association thing. I installed Bryce first (and didn't like it). Then bought and installed Vue. All of my Vue mats were listed as Bryce files. I went into the folders options feature of Windows and changed it manually (just because I didn't like seeing the Bryce association). I've never been able to use a Bryce material in Vue. How can it be done?

lingrif...sounds just like me.... I've just moved the damn things out of the VUE area....I doubt I'll ever use Bryce anyway...since they appear to plunging into never never land, besides I love The VUE interface, much easier to understand. LMAO, I've only opened Bryce 1x & that was it..thank God it was cheap. I have enough textures anyway to accomplish almost anything, so the ? ones are useless. I have learned how to create a material in Vue, so I'm patting myself right now LOL ;) Back to tut's. Thanks for being so patient....My patience are already gone as you can tell :)

To lingrif. There is a way to use Bryce materials in Vue. Define an object in Bryce which you can export (a terrain for axample) Apply the material you want to have and export that as .obj or .3Ds (i can't remember anymore). Sometimes the material will "follow" in a way. Sometimes you only end up having a rought exture map of the Bryce material, sometimes it worked. But i found that there are enough materials available for Vue so that i haven't had a need really for this sort of "translation".

To Wabe: Thanks - I'll try it. There aren't many that I'd want but there are a few that I think are neat. It seems I never have enough "landscape" mats. Maybe I can pick up a few this way.

Normally the answer is "no". With something you really want, this way is not working. But i wish you the very best...
