Unfortunately this is yet another project that I won't be able to take part in. I've been working on getting my grass products up and running, add that to college starting september 1'st, + a deadline of august 28th for an article I am doing for renderosity magazine... My plate is too full to add another project. And it's such a shame because I really wanted to do this one.
I decided to model some tree trunks in Wings3D and then I added treelab trees with "invisible" trunks for the foilage. I think they would look alright for background trees.Just another technique to consider perhaps. Bryce4 artists could substitute terrains or lattices for leaf clusters.
I still haven't yet begun to work on the challenge pic, mostly because of the tremendous heatwave that hit Milan and the most part of Europe in the past weeks (yesterday we touched 49 C -- that's about 118 F, with over 80% humidity) that really makes impossible to work for us un-airconditioned people :|, specially during the daylight hours, thus forcing me to do my real job in the night (the time I usually spend Brycing). Not to mention the continuous overheat alarm of my motherboard goin off. I hope to be able to post something soon. So far I saw really good works. Heated, Stefano :)
Alvinylaya; Very nice WIP shot. I'm still working on artwork for Orbital Thread. I haven't started workin on the challenge yet. I do have a nice idea, but work goes first. And then I've got college starting at september 1st too.

I would post a WIP, but AAAAAAAaaaaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh, my first crash since I loaded the patch :-(. br5 file is corrupt, was almost completed saving, so there's two of the axifff.tmp files lurking on my hard drive, anyone know if I can recover from the files? (typically I hadn't got as far as a save as, damn damn damn , that's about 8 hours work down the pan because I was stupid :-( )

Toolset: Blender, GIMP, Indigo Render, LuxRender, TopMod, Knotplot, Ivy Gen, Plant Studio.
Still lots of work to do!!!
Anyway, I was pondering posting the 3ds files for the water plants (foreground left)and what started as a hosta but didn't turn out quite right (on the other bank of the stream) as a freebie pack. Anyone intersted?

Sorry, this is so late but here's the values for the Mutant tree shown above. I've also posted the tree .BTO+.MATs at the link . I was surprised this .BTO was only 29k, less then the 2 exported MATS. I sure am seeing a great bunch of Bryce trees! Thanks for the comments; DanThis would make great coral for an underwater pic. Thanks! Peggy

It turns out Stefanos idea for the challenge is a REAL challenge! Not only do you have to think of treelab, you gotta learn skylab, and terrain fractals as well. Today I spent some time on the skylab and treelab, boy I learned a lot! Not much luck, just one tree =( . So here it is so far, semi-transparent leaves. Not much of a WIP really, Sigh!
I was trying to get the sun in the right spot and right amount of transparency on the leaves. Hope you guys are making better progress.
