Subject: Texture Maps in Vue 4.2

I created a simple bench in Amapi 7 and used UV Mapper Pro to create a texture map which I painted in Photoshop. I've checked the map in UV Mapper by using the tab key. It looks okay. I've loaded my model into Bryce and applied my texture and it looks like it's suppose to. I've taken it into Carrara and I think it's okay too. Can't say positively as it had some shadows on the seat that I couldn't get rid of. (I wanted to view it without shadows so that I can say yes, it's okay.) But when I bring it into Vue, and apply the map, it's all wrong. There is white on the model where there shouldn't be. And the bottom part of the texture map is applied to the top (the seat). Either Vue is applying the map wrong, or it's wrapping the whole square on the model instead of just the parts I mapped. Does Vue require that the map be flipped upside down? That's what I'm going to try next. Or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks. Kevin

In the material editor, you should have under colors, a section to the far right called Mapping. Set it to Automatic and where it says Over sampling, just to the left of Mapping. You should set that to Bilinear.

In the Material Editor, try setting the picture scale-Y to negative 1 (-1). That will flip the map.

And, the most important IMO: In the material editor, check OBJECT STANDARD insteed of the default WORLD STANDARD. When I do such maps for my objects, I just leave it at AUTOMATIC and sometimes I have to rotate the map (and its transparency map if it has some). Guitta

Well I found out that Vue sometimes behaves different when importing the mapping with certain file formats (e.g. 3DS). I saw that first when using X-Frog plants (maybe the fault is with X-Frog?). There is a tutorial in the backroom XFROG TO VUE D'ESPRIT by Orio, which may help you. - Walter

Something wrong here: You speak about Vue 4.12?? not Vue 4.2. Vue 4.2 is not out yet!

Sorry. I have the latest version whatever it is. I just said 4.2 from memory. (Obviously not a very good one.) I have whatever the latest download is from e-on. It must be 4.12. I'll check it and let you know. And I went into Photoshop and flipped my maps vertically. That did the trick. I didn't realize I could set the picture scale-Y to -1 and do the same thing. Thanks for all the great tips!

Well, I checked my version of Vue and I have 4.12-02 Build 261025 to be exact. Maybe 4.2 stuck in my mind because I keep waiting and checking for the new update that will allow you to bring Poser 5 directly into Vue. But I kind of like doing it the HARD way. It's good to some of the details. And here's a picture that I did using the log bench I made. It's nothing spectacular, but I made it and the map and the texture too.

Oh, yeah, and everything else is Vue, except for Mike and the archer costume from PoserStyle. And of course the Wedge hair and I believe it was Catherine P's Kain texture
