Subject: WIP -- too obscure?

Hmm. I don't usually post WIPs, but I'm curious as to whether the references in this pic are too obscure. I just picked up the Mansion: Music Room by Darkworld Designs / Elusion (I already use the Greatroom a lot), and popped this one out. Can anyone guess the composer it alludes to? P4 and PS6. Face is from a painting from the 1830s. Take care; Chas

Really not a clue, given my musical ignorance, but I love the graphic anyway. It is very evocative...somehow traditional and modern at once. I love the complexity of the image and textures. Nice to see someone breaking out of the standard mold. Nothing wrong with challenging the viewer.

Hmm. Didn't see the distracting dark arc at her chin at the size I'm working from, until now. Will fix.

Isn't it funny how things jump out at us after we've posted? Happens to me all the time.

I don't find the references obscure at all, but then I'm a musician... Beautiful piece :)

Thanks for the comments. I've "seen" this one in my head for awhile, but had to wait until the PC sale to get what I needed. I wasn't sure about the direction of the eye, but it seems fluid in the final result, even if it's not following quite the way I tried to set it up. Hint re: the composer. He was fixated on death, but very much attached to life (hence the duality in colors). The lady in the painting is named Cecile. I'm not telling the image title -- that would make it too obvious. :D

Hmmm...Cecile Chaminade? Oh wait, you DID say, "he", sigh. Back to the drawing board, lol. Chopin?

Hmm..lessee..Beethoven's dead about 3 years before 1830, the writing on the right's probably a clue, but it looks like it says 'Hoffa' (So that's what happened to him..;) range of the music is all trebel clef, and mostly monophonic (woops, sorry, synth background slipping out..;) so I'm guessing this is a piece for solo instrument, violin most likely..
the cursive style looks a bit 18th century, not Germanic (very distinctive style, and this ain't it..;), the uh..thorn? yog? the long 'f that means s' seems to be here.. the bow's backwards, but I think there's a technique that actually uses that..some fancy Italian name, no doubt..;)
there's a Brycean that comes in here, sorry I can't remember who, who happens to be an accomplished violinist (he posted pics a few weeks back) who could probably be more helpful..but I ain't got a clue..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I was also gonna say Fanny Mendelsson, but someone beat me to it. Very nice render!

Don't know about the composer, but the picture - VERY NICE, BTW - reminds me of an artist whose name escapes me currently, but George Braque(?) seems to keep popping up. Gotta go dig through some of my old artbooks. Great piece of work. Larry F

Haven't a clue but the juxtaposition of images and the subtle yet dramatic colors make for a very appealing work. Excellent!

Very attractive and clever picture. I wouldn't have thought of Mendelssohn as fixated on death - not like, say, Rachmaninoff was. Here's the original picture of Mrs M.

I might have given the clues too early, so I don't know if it's the clues that gave it away, or the pic (seems to be the latter). But yes, it's Mendelssohn. The script is from his "Elijah," in his own hand, albeit a little warped. Cecile seems to be one of those enigmatic figures who is almost completely unknown, and yet was obviously extremely important to the Maestro as moral support, muse and reins when necessary. And if the bow is backwards, that's my bad. :( Thanks for catching it quickly -- it's nice to know that it doesn't just make sense in my own head. :D Take care; Chas

Wish you hadn't given away the name so quickly; better to keep 'em guessing. When I looked at the picture, an echo of something by Faurplayed in my head. I think he's considerably later than 1830, but that's what the picture gave me.
