Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Cooler, Someone modeled a rat's ass, but the rest of the menagerie has been left untouched. Around the turn of the century, carpets were hung on lines and beaten with rug beaters. Have you thought about modeling a rather flat horse hung up by clothespins? Conclusions would have to be like large stepping stones, but since conclusion comes from the same root as closure, there'd have to be something to grab the victim's feet to keep him from going further. Dilemnas should have furrowed brows like those wrinkly Asian dogs (I'm blanking on their name), 2 horns large enough for tying someone to, and good sized teeth for worrying. I'd suggest short blue fur. Did you know that diligence is a French stagecoach? So due diligence might be... OK, OK! Maybe there is a reason why these visual puns have been left alone. Carolly (running quickly back into the shadows)
I'm never upgradeing from Poser 4. If it not broke why fix it? < PLEASE NOTE: Although I am quoting someone's statement, this is not directed to or aimed at that person. It's only a reaction to the statement, nothing more (just wanted to be clear that I'm not singling anyone out). Poser 4 may not be "broke", but it's full of idiotic bugs and other weirdnesses. You can't render to disk, the rendering engine sucks, the lighting system is strange, the scale is weird compared to standard 3D programs, it gets that stupid "Not enough disk space to render image at that resolution" error no matter how much disk space you really have, it does that thing where it corrupts certain .rsr files, it sometimes crashes without warning, you can't render in "sketch mode" in a new window, the list goes on and on. I'm so looking forward to DAZ Studio. I don't mind paying for additional modules. I can just buy the ones I want and will use, and give the others a miss, rather than having to buy one huge program that does a bunch of stuff I don't need and don't want, PLUS I trust DAZ because I know they listen to their customer base and will provide prompt and effective bug fixes, updates, etc. bonni

you can easily render a sketch to a new window. Just make it a 1-frame animation and choose "Current Sketch settings" Reder to disk? Well no you can't but what would be the prupose anyway? I've never understood that. If I've made a render i want to SEE it when it's done, not find it and open it from some obscure place on my Harddisk. Wether or not the rendering engine sucks is up to taste. I actually LIKE the way it renders, and FireFly renders really beautiful once you've figured out how to set the settings. I have yet to see the "not enough diskspace" error. But then I defrag regularily. Also I use Pro Pack and P5 where rsr corruption is a thing of the past, and anyway it can be circumvented by write protecting your rsr files. I also look forward to Daz|Studio becourse I think it looks very interesting and I would love the OpenGL preview. But I guess I'll continue using Poser even after I got D|S But Poser's lights ARE strange indeed. I am curious to see D|S's lights. I hope they'll be like Bryce's lights :o)

What's a rat's ass got to do with DAZ Studio? And Mad mag was my favorite as a kid...I don't remember those picture things. I thought it was Games magazine that had those. And I don't get the blanket on the bench one. As for asking about Studio...I think more people should ask more often. Every once in a while DAZ pokes it's head in and says something. I like the other responses, too ;)
" Mad magazine used to do a regular series of cartoons based on phrases..." I very seldom read Mad but I still remember their rendition of "blowing a joke." It was a monster sitting in a toilet stall, obviously getting a bl... Well, you get the idea.

Since when is a separate product made by a different company an "upgrade?" LOTS of beta and trial versions of software are save-disabled, or make use of large watermarks on renders. That way, you get to legally "try before you buy." It's a courtesy, not a conspiracy. :-) (cooler and pdxjims, thank you for the chuckles)
you can easily render a sketch to a new window. Just make it a 1-frame animation and choose "Current Sketch settings" < Mmmm. Yes, forgot about that. Very intutive, isn't it? ;-) > Reder to disk? Well no you can't but what would be the prupose anyway? < How about: To be able to make very large images without getting that idiotic error about not having enough disk space? ;-) > I've never understood that. If I've made a render i want to SEE it when it's done, not find it and open it from some obscure place on my Harddisk. < Well, then I guess the sketch render using the animation won't suit you, since it renders to disk (at least it has every time I've done it, which admittedly isn't many). But, hey, you've convinced me. Poser 4 has no bugs! ;-p bonni

Hey I never said that it didn't have any bugs. But at the same time I'm not giving in to the "let's all hate Poser" wave that seems to be flowing about. Poser is a quirky piece of software and it's fairly old, which shows. There are lots of things I would have expected to have been fixed in Poser 5, something like graphic card support, OpenGL, stuff like other 3D applications have had for years. Then I'm also one of the lucky ones who haven't had major problems with Poser 5. It's slower than my Pro Pack, and that's the main reason why I continue to use that, and personally I HATE the floating palettes in P5, but the program itself works without major flaws or crashes. Actually I don't remember when I've had Poser crash on me, be in PPP or P5. Of course I had the "Left Forearm" at the beginning, which STILL send shivers down my spine every time I select Left Forearm of a given character, but for the price, Poser is a great piect of software.

I wanna beat the dead horse also. We want it now! We want it now! We don't care if there are bugs in it! We don't care that it's 6 months from being finished! We want it now! I read somewhere (meaning: I'm making this up but I want to look like I know what I'm talking about) that DAZ Studio was secretly released to a chosen few so they could create renders with it. I also read (meaning: I'm really making this up) that you can send an e-mail to DAZ's super-secret mailing list (iwannabeasupersecretdazstudiobetatester@daz3d.com) and become a beta tester and get a free copy. And I heard from a reliable source whom I can't name (meaing: this is complete and utter bull) that Curious Labs is already getting scared over the release of DAZ Studio and that they are thinking of selling Poser to Adobe. There, that should start enough rumors and gossip for a while. Well, until next week, that is, when the next person asks about how to get DAZ Studio... even though a release date hasn't been announced and we have no idea when the program will actually be released.
I'm sure CL is apprehensive about Studio, they'd be foolish not to be concerned. On paper at least, Studio could be a real Poser killer. From the (so far very limited) reports I've read about the Mac version of Poser 5, it seems to be fairly stable. If that's the case, It shows that CL took the time to get it right when might have rushed it if they had been mortally afraid of Studio grabbing all the new Mac market. Of course the Mac market is smaller and who knows, maybe CL knew that, far from being almost upon us, Studio was a long way from it's debut. The untrusting might even speculate that the initial teasers so far in advance of the release, were an attempt to cool the market for Poser 5 - something which Poser 5 seemingly did well enough on it's own.

Curious if anybody here has used the beta of Daz Studio...I saw the screen caps of the app at Daz, thought 'WOW!' but I can't find a signup or info aside from their PRs. I'm getting sick of Poser and this new P5 nonsense, extra overhead, restrictive EULA... I want another option.
