So far, here's how the score stands at making hybrid Face-Room-compatible figures.
  • Judy/Posette (Judy's head, Posette's bod)- trivial change, no problems.
  • Judy/V2 (Judy head, V2 body)- more issues. Will need a combined neck mesh object.
  • Judy/V3 - not looking too good at this stage.
  • Don/P4 Guy - no problems, easily accomplished.
  • Don/Mike 2 - Needs a combined neck object, some other problems.

So, Don and Judy fans, which figures would be the most useful to you as Free Stuff? Also, right now I'm using the remapped Posette and Dork, so that the P4/P5 hybrids will still use Victoria 1/2 and Mike 1/2 maps, since this seemed more useful than having them take Posette/Dork maps (not as many map packages out there.) Any opinions on that?

A last note; all the hybrid figures use the body figure's eyes (so Judy/V2 has V2 eyes, Don/Dork uses P4 eyes remapped to take Mike eye texs, etc) since the eyes are arguably the weakest part of the Don and Judy figures.

I'm hoping the hybrids will be useful, so any suggestions as to what you would get the most use out of are welcome. (The lady above is Judy/V2, btw -- new Face Room face, new photo tex.)

Judy/V2 definitely! Judy/Posette second Don/Mike 2 third. And Judy/Eve too. Also vice versa: Judy body with V2 head would be really cool. However all hybrids are interesting, since they give you new opportunities to use other clothes, create new characters... ....And putting P5 heads on all the other figures makes them Face Room compatible I guess? :o) :] Fish

Judy/V2 would be a real boon, as would Don/Mike 2. I find the face room fun to play with but I've really done nothing with it simply because there aren't as many textures and clothes for those two than Vic/Mike. Shame about Judy/V3, that would be really cool. I guess this probably means Don/Mike3 is unlikely to work, too? (guessing it's the injection system which is causing problems?)

Actually Judy/P4W and Don/P4M (preferably with better eyes - didn't Questor do some free enhanced eyes?) would be potentially quite useful - get around the problems of P5 clothing that doesn't actually fit the P5 character (no, I'm not joking. I wish I were!). I must admit that much of the time I clothe my characters. Odd I know, but it happens . I'd actually find Don and Judy variants on even simpler bodies potantially useful - just enough mesh on the body for draping cloth to work, and detail only on hands, head, neck, and chest (mayhap the "collar" objects too). So PhilC's lightweight people, or DAZ's "lite" version of Victoria and Mike (there is a light Mike, right?) could be interesting possibilities... Just a random thought to maximise the possibilities (and potential work!). Cheers, Cliff

Would rather see better body morphs for D & J than the hybrid figures.

Judy/V2 I'd buy. Don/M2 I'd buy after seeing some assurance that it would work with Steph For you non-P5 users: The head in the Face room is actually a base mesh used to build all four P5 guys, so Don's head on Steph's body becomes ungendered when taken to the Face room. In fact, if the Don/Steph bonus worked, Don/M2 would be more tempting that Judy/V2, because I like Judy, and I'm not crazy about V2. I think the Judy/Posette or Don/P4Man would make a good publicity freebie, but I'd scrape up pennies for Posette. As for Judy morphs: The shame is, she has a great, natural body, but CL didn't finish her. With all the talk about bugs in P5, nobody every seems to mention the unkept promises in the libraries.

OH, and what texture is that on your illustration opening the thread?

Riddokun ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 9:12 AM

hey guies, be patient and wait for Yamato "judy body / tenten head" because i think it would rock !

who3d ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 9:17 AM

Oh yeah - forgot to mention texture maps. Michael (2) and Victoria (2) compatible texture mapping would be ideal for the bodies IMHO, regardless of the actual mesh (in as much as is possible). Although Posette actually has some pretty good texture maps floating around, I can't recall seeing many good Dork textures (not as many as Michael2 textures, anyhow).

fauve ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 9:28 AM

Let me clarify... the hybrids would all be free stuff. I'm not a merchant, so nothing discussed here is being made for sale. :-)

fls13, I see your point, but the reason for making the hybrids is to take advantage of the much, much bigger stock of pre-made clothes, props, etc for the Mil figures and Posette/Dork. And head morphs made in the Face Room would be compatible with not just any of the hybrid figures, but also with the original Don and Judy. I plan on putting up just some of the head morphs in free stuff as well. Anything that gets more people using Don and Judy is a good thing.

mickmca, that's a fascinating point about Don and Stephanie... I'd never thought about it before, but you're absolutely right! A Don/Steph hybrid would work fine in the face room for producing female morphs. That's a great idea.

The texture used on JudyV2 in the beginning of the thread is a combination job -- the head and neck are original and were made by me from photographs, and the body tex is a re-worked, repainted combination of two ByteMeOk textures (Bliss and Oxana) plus some new photographic elements from the same person as the face texture.

Judy head and Posettes body. Anytime anywhere. Would give the advantage of the faceroom on a less resources hungry body. Thanks for reading, Tony

Personally, I'm more excited about the Don/M2 hybrid. There's a lot more female figures than male figures out there. And I htink Don's head is much easier to use in the face room than Judy's.

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 12:36 PM

I like Judy and Don's bodies. But, if Judy-on-Posette-body and Don-on-Dork-body accept all the hundreds of Judy head morphs I've made and the figures work in the Face Room, then I could use all the P4 clothing from the super PoserWorld subscription I just bought - Yipee! I've never tried the Frankenstein thing on figures - can you do it and still keep the vertex number and order of the head unchanged? Fauve, free stuff would be so generous - if you'd like them, I'd be happy to give you a copy of my P5JudyMagic (and P5DonMagic, when it's ready). Elisa/gryffnn

mickmca ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 8:37 PM

Freestuff is very generous, indeed. Why don't you consider selling the V2/M2[Steph] things? Even a $5/10 fee would easily get enough sales to pay for the time you must be putting into this, and I'd be happy to pay it. If you don't want to do R'osity Marketplace, look into PoserPros, or post a query here, and see how many folks with their own sales pages at their sites will be willing to help you sell.

who3d ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 6:03 AM

. It's not often you see people try and talk someone who wants to do freestuff out of it and into charging instead. Personally I reckon if fauve wants to do freestuff it's allright with me :)
