Even though this has been brought up before, it is worth mentioning again. Why are there so many non-Poser-related threads here, in this, the Poser Forum? Just today, I counted 3 threads (out of the first 19) that talk about e-mails, viruses, and the blackout... with no relation to Poser. That comes to 16% of the messages being non-Poser related. The threads are: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=1403309 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=1403049 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=1402500 So, in the interest of fairness, we should rename this forum to "General And Poser Forum" to better reflect the topics of the threads. After all, you can't call it the "Poser Forum" if only 85% of the threads are actually related to Poser. And this list doesn't include any announcements for contests or "commerical postings" announcing new free stuff.

I didn't know you'd been promoted to moderator of this forum. Congratulations.

Spit ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:01 AM

It's not off-topic posts that are the problem, it's whining about off-topic posts and creating new threads about off-topic posts, and starting off-topic discussions about off-topic posts. And even ::gasp:: responding to threads about off-topic discussions. Guilty-as-charged.

RawArt ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:01 AM

Ya know.....If the moderators got rid of all the threads that people are complaining about lately, there would be nothing here any more. I think it would be a much nicer place if people just enjoyed all the posts in their variety (even WIPS)...and ignored the threads that bother them. ;)LOL

I'd just like to say (as an innocent bystander) I enjoy reading all the posts. I come here to see Poser related discussions but I don't mind seeing what people in the community are doing or what's on their minds. What concerns me however is people taking things TOO seriously. Get a life, don't have a heart attack, be happy! It's just a Poser forum for cryin out loud! It's not like we are trying to discover the cure for world hunger or anything serious like that!

elizabyte ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:16 AM

Good grief. This is a joke, right? I mean, it has to be a joke. Surely, nobody has that much time on their hands and that big of a chip on their shoulder (or stick up their... ahem) to honestly be whining and pouting that people are acting like an actual COMMUNITY and discussing things that aren't absolutely directly and immediately related to something specific about a program. bonni

"rolls eyes Me thinks some people have far too much time on there hands... " I Agree. Besides the mod's probably have lives to they cant be on the site 24/7 and there is a large amount of post's made per day. Come on man 3 off-topic post's ? I am on alot of Forums boards (5 really). And this is the best one, sure some off-topic's but its better than 6 topic's of spam per day like on alot of other chat forums. If you dont like it why do you bother coming here ? Happy Rend's ~GI

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:19 AM

I'm off out to see either Terminator3 or Pirates of the Caribbean, which do you think is best? is that OT enough for you ? lol

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:27 AM

Getting back to the topic though for a sec, the Poser forum happens to be the most lively of the forums on Rosity that I visit so it's only natural that there'll be a lot of noise as well as useful stuff floating around ;)

pzrite ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:44 AM

c1rcle, I would have to disagree about your first post being off topic. As you mentioned Terminator3, that movie has CG effects in it, much like POSER, and I'm sure it would interest the POSER community to see what kind of software is being used to make characters other than POSER. So when you go see the movie, please let us know about any of the CG effects you see and how they might compare to POSER.

ziggie ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 11:01 AM

Terminator 3 9/10 Pirates of the Caribean (wearing ridiculous make-up) 1/10 JMHO ziggie

impish ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 11:13 AM

Pirates of the Caribean has quite a lot of good CG (ie I couldn't tell it was CG but there is no other way to achieve the effect). Personally I'd score it: T3 7/10 Pirates 9/10 (But then I like swashbuckling films and this is the best one for decades) Cheers Mark

So, we've discovered one of the culprits of the piss & moan off-topic contest?!? Personally, I like the variety of posts in here and don't mind anything as long as it somehow is related to poser, and yes, that includes commercial posts. I mean, neftis was creating a cool figure and people chased her out of here. I for one was happy to see something non-anime and now I can't even view that because of whiners! Like Gothic-Ice said, if you don't like it, stop coming here!!

Foxseelady ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 11:27 AM

Being new to these boards, I must say I enjoy all the topics pretty much that I have found here. Poser or not they all seem to usually be inderectly related. Anyway if it is something I don't want to read or about something I don't understand, I skip it.....Can't you just read the heading and skip the thread????? The one thing that has been bothering me, the whining!!!! I've about had it, sounds like elementary school around here lately. So and so did this and so and so said that.....WHO CARES!!! Get over it and get on with it. Cheers!

pzrite ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 11:35 AM

I must agree with Foxseelady, I don't post much here, but I visit everyday, and the whining is really getting to be a bit much. Who knows maybe there are a bunch of members that are in elementary school and their mommies bought them Poser to play with?!?!? Am I whining? Sorry!

I'm a little TEAPOT! Sorry, just as arbitraty as anything else. Let's rename all the forums and confuse everybody that has been here following the rules for years! Those goodie goodies need to be shaken up! haha! OY! T3 sucked 2/10, Pirates was bitchin'! didn't want to see it drug kickin n screaming and loved it 8/10. Viruses, computer help etc can and are poser related issues and deserve to be here. When I got Poser 5 many of the threads delt with tweaking systems rescources, poser and helped make life a bit more pleasent. what about those Zip and Sit files. Ban threads about general use of OS questions! they have nuttin to do with Poser for gewds sake! pleaze! generally OT threads do get moved by moderators, and it is there discresion following the TOS and general rules as to what is valid and not. Let's let them keep doing the fab job they do. Soapbox is hot, next victim errrr persons' turn on the rant.

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 12:44 PM

I thought Pirates was bitchin too! I think Jonny Depp is incredible. What an awsome actor! He plays slightly crazy so well. He kind of reminded me of his roll as Hunter Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Not quite as much over the top though. Speaking of CG, there was some cool effects in Fear and Loathing too. Cheers, Lawny

Much like that pedophile priest that got murdered in prison, I think JohnRender is getting punished too much for "his crime". I myself jumped on the bandwagon and was having a good time making fun of his post. I was in a bad mood and was feeling kind of nasty. So, in all fairness, I'd just like to apologize for being mean and giving nonconstructive criticisism. But I would like to say to JohnRender, please take a step back and take a look at the whole picture. The Internet is a fantastic tool (for those of us old enough to remember the pre-Internet days) and it is great for sharing ideas and giving a sense of community. There ARE worse things in the world than chatting a little off topic in the Renderosity Poser forum. Be kind to one another, have a little bit of tolerance and enjoy life. (ahhh, my meds are kicking in now :)

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 1:03 PM

Goodness, can't we all stop with all the complaining already? So what if there are a few OT posts? I read those too. Makes for breaking the monotony sometimes. And besides, this is just a forum. Not the center of life ;o). At least not for most...LOL. So relax! Laurie

Well, 30 replies so far and not one who agrees with the original post. Does that tell us something? I haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean yet, but Johnny Depp is without a doubt the best actor in Hollywood today. (I exclude John Malkovich because he lives in France). Certainly the best since Dustin Hoffman was a kid. mac PS He was SO good in 'Ed Wood'. Oh, and 'Dead Man' by Jim Jarmusch. Brilliant movie.

Dizzie ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 3:20 PM

oh my.....if the original poster is this nick picky I'd sure hate to have to live in that household...... This is the best thread I've seen in days and days.....I've laughed and laughed...thanks for the giggles!

Xena ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 5:02 PM

Hey Mac, so does Johnny (live in France I mean LOL). And I do agree with you ... his acting ability is true genius. Not many actors have such an amazing repertoire of eclectic movies (26) and still to this day say they are proud of every single choice and movie they have made. The Brave is by far his best movie (and directorial debut as well) to date. As for the topic of this thread .. the more things change, the more they stay the same. If there were a week go by where someone wasn't pissing and moaning about something I'd think body snatchers had taken over Renderosity LOL

Lawndart ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 5:14 PM

pzrite: I don't think JR needs an appology if he can take it the way he dishes it out. I've seen him rip peoples heads off and chew on the veins. All for the sake of "telling it like it is". This is not a JR slam. I'm just saying that he is probably just fine and enjoying the attention. Just for the record... If it actually did hurt his feelings I would say sorry too. :) Lawny

Go see the documentary "Lost in La Mancha." It's a fascinating story of how Terry Gilliam tried to make a "Don Quixote" movie with Johnny Depp and EVERYTHING goes wrong. I admired how Johnny Depp stuck with him all the way -- rare for an actor. He seems to be in it for the art, not for his ego. I'm a big Johnny Depp fan. And I think this forum should include EVERYTHING -- even commercial product announcements. -jjsemp

Yesterday evening at this time, I was just getting back to the car after a hike to my third favorite lake. Walking under starlight is wonderful (I seldom bother with a flashlight). The lightning was a bit bothersome, but the air at 10,000' was clear. On a good night, you can see the Andromeda Galaxy with the naked eye. I've been hiking the Yosemite High Country for 30 years and been acting as "friendly native guide" for the last 25, taking people where tourists don't go. (I did the original illustrations for "Rock Climbs of Tuoloumne Meadows" because they needed an artist who was also a climber, but the places I bring others don't involve gear, just an ability to walk and appreciate being in wilderness.) There are places which I share, and places I don't. This unnamed lake hanging on the edge of the sky is one of the places I keep to myself. However, if anybody wants to walk through some very special vistas with camera or sketchbook, I'm available for arm-twisting. Carolly

c1rcle ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:25 AM

I took the family to see T3 last night & we were all very impressed with the effects/cgi, I'd give that part of the film 10/10. But I'm so disappointed with the rest of the film it's unbelievable, it was pretty much a rehash of T2 with the opposing terminators fighting over John. you Americans are really wimping out lately with the death scenes, I mean T2 was far more graphic in it's deaths but T3 was more of a kids film compared. The Ending was a waste of film too, why oh why was it made so obvious that there'll be a T4?

impish ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:57 AM

I thought the ending of T3 was quite brave. Without giving anything away for those who havn't seen it. Basicly they went we've had a cash cow chase formula for the first 3 films, its getting a bit stale so lets do our best to make sure the next one has to do something new and fresh. The big question is will T4 have the courage to go where T3 pointed or will some studio executive decide to try and just do another one to the same formula? T4 (if they go the way they pointed at the end of T3) will have to have lots of CGI too. Cheers Mark

I only like the original Terminator anyway ;o). Even then, it was flawed if not original in it's premise. Think about it: you can't send back your father into the past so that you'd be born (like you really could anyway...LOL). It's comparable to shooting your father before you were born. It could never be done. Still tho, it was interesting ;o) Laurie

Carolly, That's a beautiful place (and pic). No wonder you don't always share these places. I remember one night I was camped in the Alps and I saw a thunderstorm over Milan (about 200 km away). It was spectacular, mainly because I could see the whole thing, but it was so far away, I couldn't hear it. Just the silence of the Alps. My copy of TTT is currently in the mail from scotland. Looking forward to watching it back to back with FOTR. And I just finished reading The Silmarillion for about the 20th time. Now THAT would be a tricky one to do. LOL. mac

Spit ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 2:48 PM

I'm reading The Hobbit again. Been 35 years. I'd forgotten how charming and witty the writing is.

maclean ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:10 PM

Ah well, I'm a bit of a fan. I first read LOTR in '69 and I've more or less read it once a year since then. The Hobbit a bit less, but still a lot of readings. You know, I frequently think of JRR Tolkein whenever I read these interminable threads about Poser 'art'. The connection? Well, Tolkein believed in what he did, and practically no one else thought it was any good. Stories about elves? In the 50s after a world war? Yeah, right! But he went ahead and wrote it, despite the naysayers, and even though he didn't know if it would ever be published. (As Stephen King says "No one pays you to WRITE a book - They only pay to PUBLISH it). So Tolkein had originality, determination and a vision that no one else had. And for all these years, he's proved right. LOTR has remained readable when a lot of other trendy, flavor-of-the-month books have been consigned to the trash. Quite a lesson for budding artists there, I'd say. mac PS Currently re-reading 1984. Just for a change of scene. LOL.

maclean ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:17 PM

PPS I just remembered something apropos of re-reading books. A friend of mine couldn't understand why anyone would want to read a book more than once (or see a movie more than once, for that matter). She said "But if you've read it, you know the ending, so why would you want to read it again?" I tried to explain about writers' styles and the fascination of the English language, but I think she just thought I was crazy. Oh well, nevermind.... "Some people just don't got it", as they say in the good ole US of... mac PPPS I'm trying to make this the longest OT thread ever.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 4:46 PM

I wonder if your friend was related to my father...he had the same theory about movies. Why see it more than once if you've seen it once? There's no explaining it to someone who doesn't understand. Glad to help.

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 5:40 PM

I'm not THAT much of a reader but I have about 400 DVD's. There are some movies I watch over and over again. Speaking of books, I just read Neuromancer... Holey smokes! It's a hard read in some places but damn what an awsome book. Now I know where they got all the cool story ideas for the Matrix. Milla: I will get the special edition as soon as it's out. I want both... gimme gimme gimme LOL Lawny
