Hi I am new here. I am an art jeweler interested in fractals. I would like some advice as to what programs and resources I could use to make my own fractal images to use as inspiration for jewelry making. Thankyou

Here are the two programs I am partial to. http://www.apophysis.org http://members.home.nl/tmiddelkoop/ Both of them have given me insperation for celtic knots. But I have only been playing here for a month.

Ultrafractal is a fantastic software, you can download the free trial and the manual in PDF. BTW, welcome!!!

Tierazon2 is one of my favourite freeware fractal generators.
www.eclectasy.com/Iterations-et-Flarium24/software/ Just scroll down to "tierazon2-06-exe.zip" to download the programme. Only 578kb to download.

If you would like to make flame fractals using freeware software you can download the Gimp for windows which has a flame plugin (I have a tutorial on how to use this at www.arcanefractals.com)

http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/

Also you can use Apophysis with the freeware fractal programme chaospro

Hi, metalgirl! Welcome to the fractal deck on the good ship Renderosity! lol My favorite fractal programs are Ultrafractal and Xenodream. They aren't very expensive and make great images. Ultrafractal is very versatile with the best control over coloring out there, With it you can create layered composites of many different fractals and can do some neat stuff with masking, textures and merging. I haven't used Xenodream, yet - the thinking involved with learning a new program might hurt my tiny brain so I'm procrastinating. lol I really like the images I've seen made with it. It can make some cool, painted jewelry looking shapes with great metallic textures that I've seen on the pages here. The Apophysis freeware program is real good - but addictive, so be careful! lol You can export Apo "flames", as they are called, into UF as layers for compositions and mess with the colorings, zoom or move them around once in UF.
