just out of curiosity. . . i saw bryce at compusa the other day (first time i've seen it on the shelf anywhere in a while), and noticed that the system requirements listed on the box don't mention windows 98, only xp and (i think) 2000. i know my version will run on 98. does anyone know if they've actually done something to bryce so that the newer release will only run on xp, or if they've just left older versions of windows off the box (which seems a really strange thing to do. that would only limit sales of their product.)

No, I don't think they changed the program, people that have bought the latest version still have to get the update online to get rid of a few bugs, so it probably will run fine on 98 just like yours. Corel probably felt like they had already saturated the 98 market and wanted people to know that it was compatable with the most recent OS's to appeal to the newest users in the marketplace.

They just left the older versions of windows off the box.... I have run Bryce on my Win 98 machine with no problems other than the illegal operations that Windows gives you. But that is a windows problem not a Bryce problem. Wade

I asked the same thing some time ago. It doesn't look like they've changed anything other than the packaging and the price, and it looks like it may still work in 98, but I'm not sure because to this day I haven't installed 5 on my PC just yet (I'm in the middle of working on commissions and don't like installing new things when I have major works in progress on my hard drive). I have Bryce5 installed on a 200Mhz Pentium1 with 64Mb Ram & it works, slowly but it works :)

Aye, I run Bryce 4 on a Pentium 2/266 at work, also with 64MB RAM..... I think they just didn't want to mention '98 because it's 5 years old. Sometimes you just have... to....let.....go..... (grins)

Yeah, if they had changed the software on the actual CD, they would have went ahead and made it Bryce 5.01, and you wouldn't need to apply a patch upgrade. From what everybody has said so far, (when this subject comes up), Bryce 5 works with Win 95/98 just fine. Oh, do I remember the days of using a 200mhz PC.... AgentSmith

I have 5.01 running on win 98 machine at home no probs at all. As for old PCs, there's one in my home network which is a 486sx25 with maths co-pro all overclocked to a storming 40 MHz :-) How long before someone asks me what I use it for..........?

I have 98 too, and i don't have any problems with it... LOL and i dun..wannna.....let.....gooooooooo!! hahahahahaha Love 98 cause it's sooooooo familiar! And Xp looks kewl, but the few times i've used it on other's machines, i had to keep asking, where's the my computer icon??? ;P Jen

I felt the same way about leaving Windows 98, but I opted to go with Windows 2000 (pro), it more familiar in its look to Windows 98. And, I really am glad I went with Win2000 now, I had to build a couple of new PC's for my boss and they have WinXP on them; wow, just too many graphical options and what-not for me. You can make Win XP look/behave like what Win98 did, but it involves a bit of customizing. Anyway, I just didn't need the pretty graphics myself, I just needed to it to work, lol. Andto their credit, both 2000 and XP work so much faster/better than 98. AgentSmith
