Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
I have a GeForce 4MX on XP Pro. OpenGL works fine, for a while. Then things slow down, movement of objects in windows gets jerky, and eventually the whole thing hangs. I usually turn it on when I really need it, do my thing, then turn it back off. Then no problems. Gebe suggested that I run it only in one window. Haven't tried that yet but will post results when I do. Lin
shoop3D's System Configuration Operating system: Windows XP Pro CPU (type & freq.): P4 2.4 mghz RAM & HD space: 1.00 GB of Ram 80gig HD space Video board: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 I use Open GL all the time works great for me. Thanks, `shoop PS: looking at the wildcat4 graphics card now from 3dlabs.com. Hmmm kind of spendy but it's on my list.
Keep in mind that -drivers- can and do determine how well a card works with Vue. And that there have been some significant changes in the OpenGL standard since Vue 4 was coded. Namely the support for things like vertex and pixel shaders, and the changes in previous 'standards' that were required to allow those to work. And that the more that a manufacturer sceams about how hot your games will be, the less likely you will have comatibility with things like graphics programs (and beasts like Max, Lightwave, Maya, etc, also suffer driver disfunction when used with gaming cards).
Another thing to keep in mind, Vue doesn't really support OpenGL like other programs do. For instance, Maya, Lightwave, 3DS, all use OpenGL to it's fullest with a much higher quality of previews, etc. Vue uses OpenGL to it's advantage, but shouldn't be used as a benchmark of what Vue or OpenGL in and of themselves are really capable of. That being said, I use Vue on a Geforce3 in a Mac and a Radeon 8500 in a Windows XP box, both of which work very well.

Hm... it's surely a miracle but I have an old (very old) NVidia TNT Riva Mach 64 in my Duron 1300 with 512 MB RAM. I don't know why but it does that Open GL thing. I only had to deactivate that Background draw check box but OpenGL-View works fine. I'm even satisfied with the speed (okay beyond 300 Objekts it would slow down awfully but anything less than that works fine) Morgana
Weird experience. I just updated my drivers, now Vue Pro 4.54-02 (build 272334) complains that my Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro isn't compatible anymore. And Vue crashes after about 10 minutes of work with OpenGL. It works fine on my other machine with an Asus GeForce Ti4200 (latest drivers)

The actual render does not use OpenGL, so that doesn't make any difference. OpenGL is very useful when setting up the scene, the orthogonal views are displayed with more detail and at higher speed with OpenGL enabled - if it doesn't crash, that is. My new GeForce 6800LE works a lot better than the Radeon9600 Pro, OpenGL is stable and very fast.

Here are some cards from users I know. They have no problem to work with OpenGL. NVIDIA GeForce4 (on Win2000) Radeon 9700 PRO (that's what I have on XP Pro) GeForce 4MX (on XP PRO and Win2000) Maybe other users would like to add Video cards they work with in using OpenGL -and Vue- without problems. Please do NOT add here cards that are not working with Vue and OpenGL. Thanks, Guitta
