Subject: newbie and must be stupid

I'm starting to spread my wings and downloaded a morph???? There were no instructions and each object has an .obj file and an .mtl file. My dumb question is where do they go and how do I get them to work?

You need to know what the morph applies to. You probably can tell by where you downloaded it from or its name. (Its reasonable to assume that Pinoccio Morph applies to the man's head :) Put the morph OBJ file anywhere in your Geometeries folder. I created a sub folder called Morphs to house all mine. Load the figure and select the body part that the morph applies to. Now click on Object/Load Morph Target. Once loaded you will now find an extra dial associated with that body part. This is your morph. Save the figure (with a new name possibly) to your library and the morph will be saved also. Oh, and the only stupid newbie is the one that never asks a question :) Regards PhilC

Lindy55... morph obj files are designed to be applied to a corresponding body part. What I did for ease of retrieval & cataloging was to create a subfolder in my poser directory called "morphs" with appropriate sub folders (P4 male/P4 Female/ Vicki, etc etc) & then d/l the morph into it's applicable directory. Adding a morph is fairly simple... just double click on the body part you want to apply it to & a dialog box will pop up. One of the choices is "Add morph target". After going to your now well-ordered folders :-) and selecting the morph you'll have the option to name it. Always opt to do so with something descriptive, otherwise you'll get a bunch of parameter dials called "shape1" "shape2" etc. After you close the pop up window you'll see that you have a new parameter dial with whatever name you've selected. This is what controls your morph & you should be all set to go.

Everyone seems to have pretty well answered the question on the morph... I just wanted to add that new to a complex peice of software doesn't mean stupidity. I was extremely clueless when I first got into 3d a few years ago... practically scared to try anything. It took a lot of questions, some of which sounded pretty foolish to me, and a lot of trial & error to get practiced. Keep it up, and ask questions anytime.

Thanks to all of you for your support. Cooler, when you say "poser directory" what do you mean? And, when you say d/l do you mean copy and then paste? Also why are there both an .obj and a .mtl file?

By Poser Directory I mean that I put the morphs into a folder in my main/root Poser folder (e.g. C:Program FilesMetaCreationsPoser 4Morphs) By "d/l to it's appropriate directory" I mean that when you download any file you have the option for it to go anywhere... Say for example I was downloading a "square eyeball morph" for the P4 male. I would just opt to have it go directly to my "MorphsP4MaleEyes" folder. Saves a lot of aggravation later when you're trying to find it. Copy & paste would work just as well but I'm relatively lazy & prefer to cut out the extra step :-) The mtl file, (and Bryce users can correct me on this if necessary :-) stands for "material" and is used by Bryce to determine what files (texture, bump, etc) are to be applied to an imported object.

Lindy, go to Traveler's Morph World and pick up his tutorial on how to install morph targets. That's what finally worked for me. Up until then, morphs were a mystery. Melanie
