Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 7:34 pm)
I keep reading this same statement over and over: Not sure Vue4 Pro will be better than Vue4+Mover4+Ozone+... Deductive reasoning would lead me to believe that it will be much more than that. Let us all use our heads ok? Why would e-on spend the time and money in R&D to do something that has already be accomplished? I think we can be assured it will be much more than just a combo of all those applications. I can't wait to buy it and put into action. There are so many faucets to the Vue program that I am not sure how anyone could ever get bored. Once you think you have conquered one area, like lets say landscapes you can move forward to conquer another like interiors and so on. Then once you think you got it mastered here comes Vue 4 Pro. The best program I ever bought has been Vue. Thanks, `shoop
Its getting annoying that people keep thinking Ozone is some kind of dynamics-physics system. It's nothing but a plug-in that allows Vue 4 to function as a sky generator plugin to Cinema 4D and Lightwave. It has no wind generation functions, no scripting, no dynamic motion system, no plant editor, certainly no improvements to the Vue rendering engine, as it only allow export -to- other renderers. The things that were listed in the teaser...and the things that Phoul was able to =do= in that teaser...indicate is is a very different beast than standard Vue4 and Mover4.
Well ofcourse it will be better than vue+ ozone+ mover. There are some features mentioned that are not covered in that package. The question comes from how much better is it. There is a reason why it is called Vue 4 pro and not Vue Pro or Vue 5 Pro wouldn't you think? :)
I have no problem with the pro package. I just hope some elements of it will be available for separate purchase (like plant generator) because I don't want to spend maybe $500 for a package that includes animation features when I never plan on using them. Much rather spend $100 to upgrade my Vue 4 to use say just the plant generator.
I just think many are worried that they will be starting a trend of making one big still and animation packages from now on which ups the cost for those of us who just want it sololy for single images. Reasonable concern if you ask me as nobody wants to pay extra for a huge feature set they have no desire of using. So as long as they offer the still image Vue version with enhancements many will be happy. Yes, since it has the name Pro it does imply that there will still be regular and pro versions. So as long as the regular version has the goodies like plant generator, all is good. And hopefully it will not be out a year later.:)
ozone is pretty cool, it makes really nice skies for lightwave. i wonder though, the ozone site says it's fully compatible with vue itself. i don't think i understand what it does that vue doesn't do? all vue needs to be professional is 1)cloth dynamics and 2)a realistic dynamic hair/fur/grass generator like sasquatch. it's renders are breathtaking and the program works the way poser and bryce should. the ability to import poser 5 without dynamic cloth and hair is sort of retarded, considering that's why most people bought poser 5... not that it's not appreciated! but it's sort of goofy like that. you can import a p5 model but what do you do about their hair and clothing? i hope v4p takes care of these issues.
i know it's a poser thing, but the vue 4.2 update is supposed to correctly import p5 stuff, but not the hair and cloth. so that still makes it useless, because p5 folks have to resort to conforming clothes and p4 plastic hair. what i mean is, i hope v4pro has its own cloth and hair/fur/grass generator. that way it won't have to either try to import or ignore the p5 stuff. i dunno... here's to hoping.
all vue needs to be professional is 1)cloth dynamics and 2)a realistic >dynamic hair/fur/grass generator like sasquatch. Not quite. There are many other features that would be far more important to a truly professional audience, and many of them seem to be present in this new version. Cloth dynamics in Vue would be nice, but very off target for the programs intended use. What the Pro version will bring are some things that would allow you to use it for truly "Professional" level work, really for the first time. Scripting - This alone will be amazingly powerful. I don't know the depth of the scripting capabilities, but this would let you do things like dynamically adjust the wind strength dependant upon the proximity to objects of another object, or a camera, etc. You could control water effects, cloud values, and so much more, with more control than simply "on and off". Scripting is what allows an animation technical director to really "direct" the elements in a 3D scene to get desired results, and allows objects in the scene to interact with and drive the values of other objects. Wind - We don't even need to talk about how cool this one is! Without wind, trees look kind of, well, 3D. ; ) Dynamic Motion Reaction - Sounds like a dynamics system to me! This is great because it saves hours and hours of hand animation. You can set a pile of rocks to have a certain weight and solidity, and the same for a hill object, then simply push the rocks down the hill and you get an instant realistic landslide animation. Or a falling tree could take out the trees next to them rather than simply fall through them. Very, VERY cool stuff here. Camera Tracking - THIS is the best feature yet. Camera tracking means synchronization with another programs camera moves. So you could create a Vue animation, then use the camera tracking information to get EXACTLY the same camera moves and settings in another program where you could then animate planes, bugs, birds, people or whatever. Even advanced particle effects from programs like Maya, Lightwave or C4D could be composited in. Then the two videos get composited into one. This is the way most all professional 3D work gets done, in many layers, almost never in one 3D scene. Hybrid Motion Blur - I would guess this is a faster algorithm for rendering motion blur, so rendering animations would take hours instead of days. Good news indeed. Export - I can only hope this is a feature like World Builder, which can export its scenes fairly completely into Maya, Lightwave and 3DS. This would allow a user to work in Vue to build the world, then export it into the 3D program of their (supported) choice, taking advantage of the more advanced rendering engine, particles, etc. Needless to say, I am super excited about this new version. I really wanted to use Vue for a couple of my short animations coming up, but the lack of some of these features was making it impossible and I was already shopping around programs like World Builder. This version of Vue looks like it will directly address all of my "professional" problems. LOL!
I agree, Quoll; Vue does not need more character-oriented stuff like cloth dynamics (not that it would hurt), it needs more animation features, more customizability , and better integration with other tools. What it's getting: animation features -- wind, dynamics... I'd call that a yes. customization -- scripting and plant editing -- ditto. integration -- export and camera tracking -- maybe and yes. Even if it doesn't get them there in one swell foop, it is a significant step in the right direction. :)
