Subject: Dots Enough...Pulling hair out!!

Art ( ) posted Fri, 05 September 2003 at 12:08 PM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 10:41 PM

Anyone else ever lose their entire setup by clicking on a pose dot (in the lower right corner)? How does one CLEAR the previously saved dot settings? I didn't even think today after doing a pretty complicated scene when I clicked the first dot and found myself staring at a scene position I'd done some time ago! Oh yea...no undo!! Very frustrating! Next gripe, Parent hair to figure's head (inherit bends), then pull up a new pose and the hair suddenly blasts off to parts unknown. (One can reset all parameter dials back to zero to fix in most cases). But again...is this a common occurance? Appreciate any help! - Art -

I would lock the hair after parenting. That should keep it from flying away. As for the dots, yeah, they drive me nuts too. I have no idea how to clear them, but I know it can be done. I don't use them enough to really bother with it tho. When I get a pose or camera I like, I save it right to a folder. Laurie

That's been the way I keep my interface under control for a long time...hehehe... Probably learned that from you! ;o) Laurie

I delete all pose dots as soon as I'm finished using them. It's too easy to click on one by accident. This wouldn't be necessary if it weren't for one of the most frustrating things about that feature: They keep defaulting back to the Pose Dots when you don't want them to. It would be better if the chosen catagory just stuck there until manually redirected. One the other hand, I keep about five or six camera dots permanently saved. I've set up what I consider to be the ideal main and face camera settings. Very helpful when setting up a character.

Well if it isn't Geep! After all this time!! Oh...now it's DR. Geep...PHD...Piled High & Deep! Long time Geep! Good to see ya back in the thick of things! And to your assistance...Thanks!! - Art - I was there when the old Geeper Scooper was first invented!LOL!

LaurieA, I couldn't find any reference to clearing pose dots...only how to set them. (Poser 4). Some references in the manual point to a page that has nothing to do with what I was looking for. Sheesh...publishers! Couldn't locate any mention of use of ALT keys either. Still, it's often easier just to ask someone here than wade through the manual.:)

LaurieA, Forgot to thank you for the tip about locking actor for the hair. Works fine! I used to know that...I just misplaced it among the gray matter! Old age is a bitch! HAHA!

I use the UI dots constantly..have them set up for different screen render sizes/ratios. I use the camera dots too, but usually only in one session because I can never remember what they are. And, I agree, it's VERY annoying that it goes back to the Pose dots when you really want the UI dots. Many's the time I've click a pose instead. However the Pose dots are undo-able! If you apply one accidentally to a character, CTRL-z will fix it.

You can also go into your Runtime Dots folder and manually remove them. Then you have all fresh new dots to use. ;o)

I hate those dots!!! As soon as I get my character set up I use the 'memorize' button. Helps so much to reset in between poses. Much better than those stinkin' dots.

Am I the only poser user on earth who keeps the shortcuts booklet handy? Shortcuts booklet - Palettes and controls - Memory dots 'Dot type changes automatically when cameras, poses and the interface are changed' Shortcuts booklet - Keyboard shortcuts - Hidden shortcuts 'Clear memory dots - alt-click dot' Who needs the manual? The booklet has more useful info than the entire manual. mac

Gee Mac, come to think of it, I DO recall seeing that lying around somewhere some years ago. Heh Heh!! I know...when in doubt, RTFM! - Art - Oh yea, to answer your question, Perhaps! ;)

Maclean, Nope. I keep the folders very handy. For Bryce, Poser, PhotoShop whatever, if there is a compact sheet with all that information, it is probably braced against one of the computers. The top one is for Carrara because that is where I'm trying to get more proficient at the moment. Anything which saves time is too valuable to keep in a box on the bookshelves! Carolly
