Subject: Types of virtual sets needed for Poser?

pzrite ( ) posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 3:17 PM · edited Thu, 19 December 2024 at 11:05 AM

I'm thinking about entering the wonderful world of Marketplace merchants...my specialty is building virtual sets (interiors, sci-fi sets, other rooms etc). And I was wondering what type of sets people would like to see or use for their Poser figures?

Interiors? - How about a small suite of Victorian haunted rooms? A Bedroom, a Stairwell, and a Study with rotating fireplaces, sliding bookcase, portrait with cutout eyes and posable eyes-prop behind, secret passage, dropcloth-shrouded couches, chairs, tables, etc. Add a transmapped "ghostly" draped figure and it would make quite a package! The draped furniture should be easy enough to do using the Poser 5 "Cloth Room". Properly grimy and filthy textures would be necessary, of course. Another possibility - Interior of pirate Ship cabins and holds.

I second the vote for a good forest set, preferably old-growth. Like something out of the film Legend.

Hopefully the polycount could be kept down with creative use of textures/bumps/displacement/transmaps. I'd have built one myself by now, but I suck at modeling trees.

I would like to see (exterior) modular building kits. Walls sections with windows and/or doors, both two story and single story. Also loading docks and shop fronts etc. Styles would range from victorian (brick and wood) through to modern. They would be similar to the Model Railroad products put out by Design Preservation Models.

How about a natural-looking cavern and/or cavern entranceway? I have not seen one done (well) yet.

Brownstone flats as all over NYC. They can look snazzy or creepy, always have dark stairwells., narrow alleys or basement cutouts. Anybody ever thought about doing The Dakota!! [you know the place from Rosemary's Baby, John Lennon's death] I know modern sounds dreary but the punks and goths have to hang out somewhere.:)) Emily

how about interior rooms of hogwarts?the main hall, great hall, the moving stairs, class rooms etc

elizabyte ( ) posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 9:38 PM

Okay. Here are a couple of things I've looked for and been unable to find: A jungle. Something with hanging vines and such. A small, easy-to-use pond setting. That's all I can think of at the moment. I think there's more, but my poor old brain isn't sufficiently caffeinated. bonni

I'm going to need a hospital interior and exterior at some point. Hospital Room, Corridor, etc... More real world down to earth places, and versitile stuff.

Gwiz ( ) posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 11:04 PM

Something I've never seen done... Automobile interiors. For scenes inside cars. PoserWorld has a Limosine exterior...How about the interior?

Thanks for the suggestions. (keep em coming) You're giving me some great ideas.

Everyday life! for examples, supermarket, subway and subway station, hospital, classroom, etc. Simple but realistic. In addition, I think there is no realistic street scene in poser communities around.

egyptian rooms are always nice Victorian scenes would be cool - lots of use for them - epecially a Jack the Ripper style alley Fairy bowers (you would sell them well)

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 5:58 AM

Everyday life - I second that. Street scenes, warts and all. Sidewalks, shop fronts, disco/night club fronts. Realistic/grimy. Shop & club interiors, also shopping mall. Back alley w fire escape, dumpster. Dirty, worn. Scifi interiors and exteriors - NOT antiseptic space ships, but 'real' type scenes, well used looking, grimy, 'everyday'. - Often such a scene is most believable if it looks like a scene of today, but with a 'twist' - details that make it obvious that this is the future, not the present. But the basic sidewalk/interiors thing as a base. Think 5th Dimension, Blade Runner, the like. And especially - scenes that would work with Dystopia, 'at ground level' with Dystopia as possible backdrop. :] Fish

ChromeTiger ( ) posted Mon, 08 September 2003 at 7:32 AM

I'll add a third to the 'everyday life' group. There's definitely a shortage of normal, everyday locations. On the specific side, here's a few specialized locations that I personally could use, maybe someone else could as well: A research facility - Labs, testing bays, board room, medical center, etc. A corporate headquarters - Several offices for the high-ups, some middle management offices, meeting rooms, cafeteria, and of course, the cube farm. The 'secret headquarters' - R&D lab, danger rooms, launch bay, and so forth... Best of luck in whatever you attempt! CT

Everyday stuff!, underwater stuff, historical stuff!, futuristic stuff... I'd like a grand library brimming with books and bookcases that are floor to ceiling, with curved steps leading up into the shelves... There's marble all over, and a fire place, with big cushioned seats strewn about at intervals, accompanied by small wooden tables with varying feet. The occasional desk can lean up against a curtained alcove with gorgeous brass lamps on some desks and brass sconces on the walls with several brass standing lamps as well. There should be large multi-paned windows, one with a balcony so that you can read outdoors with a fresh breeze. On that balcony there can be a cushioned two-seater swing, as well as regular iron chairs.

I'm with ChromeTiger. The thing I liked least about P4 (and it hasn't improved with P5) was the complete dearth of sets. I would gladly pay for a CD that had the following interiors (if not exteriors) with basic furniture props and textures: Bank main area Classroom and Hallway Office Grocery Store/Convenience Store 1-story 3-bedroom home with 2-car garage Church/Synagogue/Mosque Hospital Cafeteria Bus Station/Airport Restaurant Warehouse/Library Cubicle farm/Police station Locker Room/Showers

With Halloween coming up, how about a morgue? With all those sliding drawers, drain on the floor, Organs in hanging scales. The older ones were porcelain and wood, with all the attendant staining. I can't help it, I'm an undertaker's daughter. Emily

I see I was beaten to the jungle suggestion, but I've been wanting to see one for a long time - and how about a good snow scene as well?
