heh, I don't know how many of you have done something like this... but you can make pretty good cartoony pictures with bryce :) Here, I made all the textures in my default paint program that came with my computer lol. I had this one in the WIP gallery at least a year ago.... that was before I found out how unhelpfull that gallery is. anyway, just thought I'd share it with you guys per chance you didn't see it yet

How's this for cartoony? I started working on this months ago (if not closer to a year) and I've still got to finish it sometime. I orignially wanted to make an animation of this, but it's way to AA intensive to render fast enough for animation.

I also need more houses and a car and a livingroom. I've already got the stickfigure people :)

Done with Penguin, a Rhino rendering plugin. :-) A nice little program to have fun with. Has sketch and Cartoon options. this is Cartoon.

Aww, awesome pics! I gotta try that one of these days! Alvin

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 12:49 AM

The leaves are just custom leaves with a texture made in psp.

Ok does someone want to tell me how you make this cartoon effect in Bryce. Or maybe someone could write a little tut...........eh Rayraz. 8) Catlin

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 4:56 AM

As soon as I've got time I'll make a little tut. Basically my technique comes down to making cartoon textures in psp and putting them on models in bryce. Some of the outlines are modelled in bryce too with cilinders and spheres. Using cubes to outline the models is easier on the polycount, but creates sharper edges.

Another approach was shown off in the Poser Forum--the essential point was to set up the scene, then select *everything* (with appropriate grouping) and reduce the z-scale of those items. Check the tute listed in the link; should be easily adaptable to Bryce.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 11:35 AM

That's a good tut but I want to create a 3d cartoon effect I don't want it to look like something on a page of paper.

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 4:44 PM

Sometimes playing with median filters and posterize settings in 2D apps can creat very nice results too. I'll post some more stuff tomorrow if I've got the time. I've gotta go sleep now :) it's 23:43 here and I've got a presentation tomorrow at school and I still have to get the posters from the printhouse before I go to school. I don't want to be too sleepy :)

I created my scene just like I would any other. The only thing I did different was using flat color textures. I painted the sides of the houses, and applied the picture as a texture onto flat square surfaces. Then I basicly put them together to make the houses. The backround sky is also just a large 2D face with a pic that I painted. I really like rayraz's version. This is because of all the 'actual line' he was able to generate. I wish I had applied alot of that in my image I'm awaiting his tut myself :) brholte
