Subject: Goodbye to all my friends here in the fractal gallery..

fractalinda ( ) posted Sun, 07 September 2003 at 7:57 PM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 1:55 PM

Don't want to sound like a prude, but I'm going to say it like I see it. The ads/banners at the top of each Renderosity page are sometimes demonic-looking and more often than not, Poser-like figures in erotic poses. I believe that each individual must choose for him/herself what he/she will allow into his/her mind and heart. Whenever I make a choice now, I consider what Jesus would have me do. I don't make that decision for you..or you..or even you. Just for me. The sad part, for me, is that I consider many of you close friends now. If you would still like to maintain contact, please don't hesitate to contact me at fractalinda@yahoo.com. I wish the best for each of you. I say with Joshua, a prophet of the Old Testament, "Choose this day whom you will serve;..as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 14:25 (partial verse) Sincerely and with love, Linda

Also wanted to thank each of you for your continued encouragement and support by way of all your lovely comments. I have so enjoyed your pieces of fractal art, as well. And a big thanks to Renderosity for hosting my ever-burgeoning gallery for the past almost two years. Please take the space back for yourselves.

If you stop posting... and others follow your lead, do not believe this will stop the posting of images you find objectionable, however if you continue to post, you can offer an alternative...
Have enjoyed your images and always looked forward to seeing anything new you have done, as well as your insightfull eye evident in your comments and the messages we have shared.
Do wish you would reconsider, and continue posting - as it is always good to offer inspiration to others that might be interested in producing images, and find that not all has to be done as you mentioned...

While i respect your reasons and beliefs, I definitely agree with everything Hewsan says... I too wish you would reconsider, and that by continuing to post you are offering an alternative, gracing us and visitors with the beauty of your art, which is a definitely preferable over the banners. I have always enjoyed looking at your images, your skill with capturing an essence of celestial mood has always appealed to me, and you have also always given wonderfully encouraging commentary... I wish you would continue to share all this with us.

Linda, this saddens me very much! But I do understand! I have also been bothered by these banners! I try to ignore them as much as possible! I feel you offer so many things to Renderosity as well as all of the friendships you have! We really wish you would reconsider your decision! There are so many people that need to know how much God loves them especially on this site! You are one of those people who could get the point across, sometimes better than anyone else! If you should still decide to not be part of Renderosity, I will always respect you and your choice! You must know this site will NEVER be the same without you! Not only do I LOVE your images, but I also have grown to love you very much as my "Grandma"! Please reconsider. Love, Vicky

Linda, I respect your feelings but at the same time I wish you would reconsider. I have enjoyed your work since I started here a little over a year ago and I will miss you. All the best, Michael

Linda, I'm so sorry you're leaving, but I understand sticking to your principles. The very best to you, always, Tina

I haven't been here very long but I have already developed a great respect for your work. I also wish you would reconsider. Don't take away a valuable voice for quality and decency! Wouldn't it be better to try to do something to change things? Renderosity allows screening of nudity, etc. on images, why not on adds too? It seems like hypocrisy - to acknowledge that this is offensive in a picture yet not in advertising? What do poser products have to do with fractals anyway? Can't some of us bring this up and see if something can be done before someone like you leaves? Donna

Hewsan, Kim, Vicky & William, Michael, Tina and Donna: Thank you each for your well-wishes and the points you have made- all valid, and I've carefully considered what has been expressed. I have written to Admin here at Renderosity to check on the feasibility of allowing an option to turn off the offending ads and banners. That would be wonderful, but I don't think it will happen. I've not yet heard back from them. There are other factors, too..issues that I won't go into here, because they have to do with what's best for me and my family. Mainly, I wanted you to know I appreciate and understand what you've expressed. Thanks again.

Linda, I'm really bummed to hear you are leaving us. You have been like a beacon of decency and kindness to we here on the fractal pages and your presence, not to mention your fine images and wonderful artistic sense will be sorely missed. I, too, wish you would reconsider. For what is "light" that it should recoil from the "darkness" and be hidden from sight and not be there to guide the way of even one whom seeks a better path? Ours is not to judge the things of the world, but to be examples of this "light" to stand out and be seen in contrast against the darkness we percieve and show a better way. Hope you do change your mind, though it sounds like you have other concerns, as well. Sure will miss you if you don't...take care, Linda. Rick

there are banner killers or little tiny programs to ban the banners, but i am a mac user, and i dont get them things at all, so i dont really know which one ya should use ... guess windooz ppl are drawing the shortest straw for these stupid banners, and get the innocense from the net ... guess you should contact your provider to ask what you can do about it, or search for banner killers yourself, i know the things are very irri ... but you can do something about it ... hope you will manage, for it's a great miss if you leave this nice community because of the stupid banners ... greetings, Harmen

Hi Linda, I'm glad you stay with us. Lately I have the project of inspiring myself with classic theme in painting, some of these themes are legendary like "la chute d'Icar" some are historical and many are religius like "Virgin and the child" or " The tentation of Saint-Antoine". May be you could meditate on this last one... Cheers, Luc

Hey, Linda Those banners have kept me from giving my gallery's URL to many of my friends and relatives. Although I won't abandon Renderosity for the sharing, I think I may add 3dcommune.com to my uploads. I've found that site has many advantages over Renderosity and I've yet to see any blatantly offensive ads there. I recommend you ...and anyone else to check it out and to comment on what you think. Stan

fractalinda ( ) posted Sat, 13 September 2003 at 10:39 AM

Hi, Stan 3D Commune is a great community overall, like this one is. I used to post there, too. I have to say, though, that if you visit them "after hours"- particularly late night and into the wee hours, their ads are equally as offensive. Having said that, I will admit I haven't been over there for a couple of months, so it may not be true any longer. Would be delighted if that were the case. Thanks, Linda

I haven't meant to jerk you around. This has been a very difficult thing, but because of my convictions and my weaknesses, I'm leaving Renderosity. I wanted to give you the heads-up in case I'm on favorite images lists..so you can remove the images before they appear as blank thumbs. I apologize to those of you who have already had that happen, since I've deleted more than half my galleries already. Thank you again for all your support and your friendship. This is definitely what's best for me and my family. Best wishes to each of you. Linda

I guess I'm late again but I post it anyway. I enjoyed your beautiful fractal images very much. But if you want to leave I have to respect that. Good Luck and maybe I see you at 3dc. Longrider.

It never helps to run away. Did Jesus live in a world that was friendly, understanding and living to His principles? Or did He simply go on, and set an example for those with ears to hear, and with hearts to feel? I have no problem with those ads. In fact: I hardly look at them. Many works here are indeed adolescent's play. Yet they are perhaps less harmful than images of war and torture and politicians trying to make us believe that killing humans can be something like a chirurgical necessity. Look at yourself with open heart and mind. And above all: keep on making beautiful fractals.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)
