ok i have a sphere inside of another object, and i want to edit the one on the inside. but when i try to click on the one on the inside it just chooses the bigger one that surrounds it, is there any way for me to selsect the smaller sphere on the inside of the big one?????

Hold down the shift key as you click. Other way is to use the tab key to step through your objects, but this is not helpful if you have hundreds of items... Peggy

shift + click is good... Also, on the bottom of the interface, where the timeline controls are...there's a way to change it to a "select _____" menu, which would allow you to select all spheres, all cubes, etc. etc.

or just texture it..then stick it in? The shift click is very handy, too.

Most of the time I will place the cursor on what I want to selest and use "Ctrl+LeftClick", it will bring up a little dialogue, and you can choose which mesh you want. Which works fine when you aren't clicking where there are 100 parts, lol. AgentSmith

It also helps to name your objects, You can do that by clicking the 'A' Button on the object select menu or go to Object>Attrubutes. I find this helpful when i have negative objects so i wont get confused When i see Sphere 1, Sphere 2, Sphere 3 on the menu AS mentioned.
