You have to save the "thinggy" in Poser as a PZ3 then import it to Vue. What did you get as your birthday present, Vue or Poser? I don't know about Poser5, I use P4 with ProPac, but that is how it is done. genny

Poser 4 or Poser 5? Vue will import a PZ3 saved from Poser 4 (what you get from File>Save) as long as Poser is closed first, then you just need to scale and position it. The beta (test) version of the Vue 4.2 is available and will open Poser 5 files, but it has mixed (if mainly positive) reports. From Vue to Poser you can export only the terrains - no vegetation or objects; there is a thread about this below.

If you just want to import a single "thingy" from Poser 5 to Vue, you can always do it by exporting as a OBJ file from Poser and importing to Vue, since Vue reads OBJ. But to import an entire scene and get textures and stuff to go with it automatically, you need to wait for the (finished version) of the Vue 4.2 upgrade. Importing Poser 4 scenes to Vue works perfect though, as described above.

I always save the poser thingys as an .obj and copy the textures used to the same folder as I save the .obj in.. and then import to vue.. then the thingy comes into vue all nice and textured :) it's supposed to do that with pz3's too.. but they always end up weird for me..

Kelderek ( ) posted Mon, 15 September 2003 at 3:46 PM

If you have Poser 4, there is no need to use obj files, just import the entire pz3 scene into Vue and the textures and all will follow. Select "import object..." from the "Objects" menu in Vue and select pz3 as import format. Just make sure you have the latest (officially released) patch for Vue (4.12), lots of issues with pz3 import has been resolved in the patches.

With Vue you can Import Poser 4 PZ3 files, just save what you want in Poser the way you would nominally and the shout down Poser and open Vue. Then go to (Objects) (Import Object) then locate your Poser PZ3 file you saved. Vue will then ask you to locate your Poser.exe file, located in your Poser directory. Then once that is done it will load the saved PZ3 file and your all set, textures and all. Importing as an Object file requires you to locate and collect all the textures your self and copy them to a common folder that you most also have the Object file in. The PZ3 file doesn't require you to do all that; it will find the textures itself.

I am just gonna have to sit and read on this one too..lol I tried to import one of my previouse pz3s{I save them religiously} and the skull headstones went missingO.O they just didnt come in with the pz3. and she looked all odd and stuff. but..I will get to reading{hate doing that after awhile it starts to sound in my head like the peanuts parents did..waa waa waa waaaaaa waa waa} Though I can tell already I do like being able to change the materials and I do like building a scene..{already did that a nice water scene with three moons I was patheticly estatic} though I am surprised at the render times...the water scene took half an hour.O.O now you cant move vicky when she goes into vue can you?

You can move Vicky from one place to another within the scene, but you can't change her pose once she's in Vue.

If you're at least updated to Vue 4.1.2, there's no good reason to export .obj's from Poser 4 or P4/PP...why would you? In fact, that old-fashioned method doesn't properly translate bump, transparency, or reflection. And of course, and .obj file of an entire scene is likely to be so huge that it's slow down your set-up and render time considerably. The .pz3 method is far more accurate and efficient...there are very minor tweaks to do (e.g. turn off "casts shadows" for parts of eyeballs, adjust reflection if you'd assigned ref maps in Poser) but that's so much simpler than the .obj method. The Vue d'Esprit forum is an outstanding resource for these issues. Be sure to check the Vue "Backroom" for all sorts of helpful tutorials and links.

Happy Birthday! Vue is a great program. Can't wait to see what you do with the PPP/Vue combo!

Hi I've had vue a long time and since the upgrade I find when I bring PZ3s into vue that sometimes objects are missing. But if you check the box in vue that asks if you want to import objects as groups then sometimes the missing things get imported quite happilly. Some kind of new vue bug I think. Love esther PS Also I need to have poser open (not closed like everyone else) to import into vue with textures intact. Also there is a problem with some bump maps and you get a message saying illegal version something or other about a pict file and vue goes splat. I know how to fix it if that happens to you you just have to make new bumps from the jpegs using poser.
