Subject: E-on pricing

E-ON is shipping VUE Pro, Upgrade from Vue 4 for US customers $299 Upgrade from Vue 4 for Eu customers 299 aka $340 Upgrade from Vue 4 for UK customers 199 aka $320 I'm not even talking sales tax here (62) but why do we have to pay $40 more for the same product when buying from a local company and exchange rates don't apply?

Hmmmm, I don't know what you mean. And it is available now.....gotta go see ...Sharen

MixedNut ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 8:45 AM

What about us poor 3.x users? Can't we upgrade directly?

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 10:39 AM

MixedNuts, only Vue 4 users can update to Vue 4 Pro.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 10:52 AM

Just ordered mine...decided to get Mover 4 too....he he he...play time. Sharen

Hein, each country has its own VAT (or TVA=France, Mehrwertsteuer=Germany and so on). These taxes are to pay by the customer at the time of purchase. Guitta

davidrivera ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 11:41 AM

I wish E-ON would give us more time than Oct 15 deadline for the $299 upgrade price. As it stands now I will most likely not be able to scrounge the cash to meat Oct 15 deadline. Any Idea what the upgrade price will be after the deadline? Will there be an upgrade to Vue Pro after the deadline?

hein ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 11:55 AM

Guitta if you read what I said , I am not including that sales tax (VAT-BTW-Mehrwertsteuer etc) in the calculation, I'm talking about the bare bones price. 2 years ago (upgrade from Vue 3 to Vue 4) when the Dollar was high against the European currencies they made 110% sure you paid the full Dollar value and you can bet they had their calculations straight, this time round the Dollar is weak and $299 would mean only 270, so now E-on is conveniently unable to find a calculator.

As software industry conversions go, that isn't too bad. Pity there isn't an option to buy and download from the US (yes I did read the reasons why not - just wishful thinking).

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 1:28 PM

I thought there was an option to download this upgrade. Actually I don't think this price is to bad with all the new stuff that comes with this. 3CD's of stuff. Sharen

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 1:46 PM

It's the markup this side of the Atlantic that Hein is querying, not the base price. I thought Lynn siad, in the original announcement thread, that a 3CD download would be impractical - which it probably would for many of us.

Business hat on... Direct pricing gets set on a per market basis according to the target price that we feel is about right for the market. Of course, distributors and resellers set their own pricing. The result of that is sometimes its cheaper to buy in one market over the other. There were several months in which it was cheaper to buy Vue 4 in Japan. Most vendors (ourselves included) set a USSRP (United States Standard Retail Price), then allow their subsidaries to release according to their own markets. As long as there isnt a greater than 20% difference then there usually isnt a very big impact. This is to allow for fluctuations in currency. Regarding downloads -- Vue Pro is just too big. Also, we dont want to expose our flagship products any more than necessary to the download market because of the piracy factor. Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 3:02 PM

I agree with you Lynn, making it unavailable for download is smart, but I could have sworn I was asked if I wanted the update downloaded or not. Maybe it was Mover 4 that asked me that....sorry, I am so excited I don't know what I am seeing. Sharen

Seems that ordering an upgrade from v3 was no problem after all - looking forward to it, thanks! :)

Yeah, good question. I'd like to know, too..

Lynn ( ) posted Wed, 17 September 2003 at 11:58 AM

I already answered this question above. Our European marketing staff determine the ESRP price. They take into account a market correct target number that approximates the price in North America. Location is a factor, but there are many more, including currency fluctuations. If we had to ship from North America to Europe, the difference in overall cost would be much higher, and we'd still have to collect VAT. Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software

MixedNut ( ) posted Thu, 18 September 2003 at 2:59 AM

Well - sounds reasonable, just didn't feel like that when I saw the price list. Never mind, I ordered it anyway. :)
