Subject: Creating textures for clothing

MulaG ( ) posted Tue, 16 September 2003 at 11:49 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 10:10 PM

Does anyone know how I can start to make my own textures for clothing (poser 5)? I have Poser 5 and Paintshop 6 and a good 3D program. What files will I need to produce and once I have made a texture I assume I use the UVMapper prog? Also is it possible to make a texture in a 3D package then export that to photoshop or save it in a format which can be read by the UVMapper? Confused!

You will need the object file (obj) to run through Mapper, it only takes .obj's. Yes you would use UV mapper, create your map then don't forget to save your new object (because you just changed the UV's) then save your template and bring your template into your paint program and start painting it. I don't see why you can't make a texture in your 3D package then save it as a jpg and then import it into you picture, cut paste mask etc to fit your clothing. Sharen

GO to www.uvmapper.com and read some of the tutorials or you can go to our site and read how to texture an object file. Simple little tut that may get you started. Sharen

However you only need to do any mapping if it is a new clothing item - if it is a pre-made item it will (or should be) mapped already and all you need is a template to show you where to paint. At best the maker will have provided a nice labelled template, at worst you will need to open the OBJ in uvmapper and save a new template straight away (without doing anything to the mapping, so with no need to save the object back out).

Thanks everyone, I thought it would be a lot more complex. Your right I could just create the material and save as a jpeg. Cheers

MulaG~ I have a Texture/Material megakit in the marketplace right now. It comes with lots of seamless tiles, material presets (for clothing/props/anything) for poser 5, and 2 tutorials for texturing ANYTHING in poser 4 or 5. You don't need to know anything about UV maps for using this method (but it is always nice to learn something new, and for the complicated/really detailed stuff it is necessary). Here's the link~ http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=20860 I know, I know blatant advertising is horrible, but I couldn't help it! :) Cheers! Elizabeth
