THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Planting problems and more-Please help.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:01 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 11:39 AM

I have Bryce 5. 1) I'm trying to add trees to my terrains. I'm still working on the trees, trying to make them busher with smaller leaves, but my bigger problem is planting them. I have difficulty knowing where the terrain surface is. The trees wind up up in the air, or buried deep in the ground. 2) Is there a listing somewhere that you can click on to selecting an item. I have trouble selecting a particular item, I keep getting items I don't want. 3) I'm having problem getting a rolling hill terrain. Can anyone help?

Try using openGL this will grey shade your terrain.

  1. If the object is above something else there will be a little arrow pointing down, click on this and it will drop the object down. It may require a bit of adjustment afterwards but it'll get you in the ball park. If it's below the ground plane the arrow will point up and it'll raise it to the ground plane but not any higher. 2. crtl-click on the object you want and a list will appear. This is why it's a good thing to name all objects for easy selection.

Hold down the ctrl while clicking on your objects a drop down list will appear for you to select from.

Sometimes they don't land on the ground, you need to nudge it. Page Up or Page Down moves the object vertically, Alt-Shift Page Up or Page Down moves 1/2 unit Alt Page Up or Page Down moves 1/64 unit Shift Page Up or Page Down moves 2 units The same key combinations apply to the arrow keys which move on the x or z axis. Then use the ray spray and check for placement.

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

How do I get openGL? I don't get a pulldown menu with open GL on it. How can I print at 300 DPI

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 10:30 AM

How can I print at 300 DPI?, just to let you know I think I found the answer. "Save to disk", right? Someone said you can also do the 300 dpi save elsewhare, is this true?

The dropdown menu to select OpenGL comes with pressing the left button and holding it pressed if I remember correctly (goes all automated by me :))

Ohohoh, I can't wait to try the open GL thingy!!!! I've never even thought about it, I've heard it mentioned. I guess its a day to learn something new, and I should get a notepad and write down those combo keys thing too. I'm so glad when someone asks a question like this. I never even thought about it but its something that bugs me. I usually go into solo mode with what I'm trying to position and this will be so much easier than doing that! Thanks

hmm..I do something called 'tree-bombing'..I set the view straight down, and create trees in the air above where I want them to go..once everything's in place, I just pull 'em down..crude..but effective. There's a list of Bryce hot keys out there..somewhere..maybe another person remembers where..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

The OpenGL doesn't do boolean operations though. those are only done during the final render.

I created the image the right size for 300 dpi, but it is too large to show everything, is there anyway to move around in the image to check everything, or do you have to do the finial check at a lower res? I found I could do the pixal - inches conversions in Photoshop. IMAGES> IMAGE SIZE> you can plug in inches and get pixels or pixels and get inches.

Aldaron ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 3:31 PM

Set the document to a size that will fit your screen but a multiple of the size you want. (ie you want a 1200 x 1600 render and it doesn't fit your screen, set the document to 300 x 400 and the render resolution to 1:4) this will allow you to see the whole scene but it will render at the size you want.

How do you add textures to the texture file? I wanted to add old wood boards, or sone walls, or more metal textures, etc. I tried using "file" the some JPEGS, but not luck.

To get the OpenGL you left click and hold on the little cube to the bottom right of the main window. This opens a dropdown with the OpenGL in the list, click it and there you have it. 8)
