Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
i really have no idea...BUT, discreet is very tight with the .max format...there's really no other software that i know of that can open a max file besides 3dsmax...and i don't think poser has anywhere near the capability to handle all that you could throw together in max scene...all the modeling variables etc..i don't see how poser could open it or really why you would even want too, even if the format was readily available
I have purchased Body Studio for Max, and without a doubt it's the #1 way to bring poser files into Max. Works like a dream for that, but if you do decide to purchase it, make sure your system can handle the extra CPU required to run it. Anyway, to answer your question... the program only works one way... it flawlessly imports a Poser scene into a Max environment, where you could then apply textures, materials, and use all the power of 3ds effects and tools. However, it will not work to export a Max scene into poser. The plugin resides in the 3ds environment, and not the Poser environment. You create a scene in poser... including textures, etc. and save as a PZ3 (native poser file format). Then open 3ds and access the Body Studio plugin, and import the scene into any Max environment. It maintains all the textures, props, morphs, and animation of the PZ3 file, while still making it editable in the Max environment. PS: No, it doesn't allow you to re-pose the figures, or articulate their current poses from what they were saved as in the PZ3 file, but it does allow you to add 3ds materials, objects, effects, and makes it available to render in 3ds. If you're not familiar with 3DS already, it's an incredible high-end 3d program, and has some of the most vast collection of plugins available for it. You can make a scene look incredibly realistic, or use one of it's many available plugins to render a scene in ways that would just be incredibly painstaking or not even possible at all with Poser or even Bryce. Anyway, hope that clears up some of the mystery. Good luck in your decision!

I know that Body Studio allows you to open a Poser scene in 3D Max, but what if you had a Max scene open in 3DMax, could you then open that in Poser through Body Studio, or am I on totally the wrong track here? Does Body Studio only work one way, from Poser to Max? I am still trying to decide if I should buy Body Studio, but I can't find any information on the web and you can't get any manuals or tutorials until you buy the program, which makes getting information very hard to come by. You would think that the makers didn't want to sell the program, judging by the lack of information.
