Jesus saves. The rest of us have to Back up. Bummer. If you have seen the Bryce Render on my site I did called Wine Forgotten (the one with the sunset, rose and wine glasses), I worked on that for 5 hours then crashed. I hadn't saved for 4.5 or those hours. Lost almost everything. Started over and finished at 4 in the morning. it was a gift for my wife for our 2nd aniversary. I understand (patting Michelle on the back) {{{{{hug}}}}

Ohhhhh... And it will never look the same... 8-( Hugz, Dear Michelle. [Photoshop 7 does seem a lot less stable than 5.5]

BruB ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 11:17 AM

We've all been there before, but like many of us, i'm sure you will make something twice as good as the one you lost.

Bug hug...

Michelle A. ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 2:54 PM

sniff, sniff Thanks for the tissue and chocolate and all the huggles..... Yes Misha for some reason PS 7 seems to crash for no reason that I've been able to figure out... It always happens after I've been working on an image for a while, I click "save as" and boom.....the program just shuts right down. sigh It's a pretty irritating habit....

I am, therefore I create.......

hi, hope you were able to recover your work. a guy i worked with had the same problem as well. he managed to get around the problem temporarly by increasing his scratch disk but ultimately he solved his problem by getting more ram for his machine.

Pictures appear to me, I shoot them.   Elliot Erwitt

i had a similar problem & this is what a dear gf told me, even though i doubled my memory: "...your problem is most likely due to too many programs running in your Start Up menu. For example, hit your cntl + alt+ delete buttons all at the same time. A window should open up showing you a list of what will look like gobbledygook, LOL, but it's all the things running behind the scenes. These will slow down your system and eat up valuable resources - and you'll notice it most when you are working with graphics. What to do? Find someone who knows about computers, have them come over and look through the list. Then they will know which can be turned off and which can't. It'll be a pain in the arse, but have them show you exactly which ones to shut off and when you plan to do extensive graphics, you'll have to go in and do that. A pain because when you reboot your computer, the list will return and you'll have to go in and do this each time you're going to do your graphics. Pain yes, but at least you'll be able use your programs and filters without the constant crashes! Hope this helps!" hugz 'chelle :]

Cynlee, If you are running Win98 you can go to Start Run and type in msconfig and hit enter. There you can turn the unneeded BS off!

cynlee ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 6:37 PM

i'm not, i got xp, so now what? (p.s. ...the list of goop is under processes)

zhounder ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 6:38 PM

got me there. Too much spyware for me. I won't run it but I am sure there is some similar type tool in there somewhere.

Erlik ( ) posted Sun, 28 September 2003 at 12:15 PM

cynlee, if you're at least a bit familiar with Registry, you can delete entries in there. Otherwise, you have to double-click/right-click on the entries in the System Tray and exit those program before you start working. In the list of processes, there are some that are easily identifiable. But others are not. If you can identify something, kill the process. If you kill a wrong process, the worst that can happen is that you'll have to reboot. Also, download a little program called Ad-aware from www.lavasoft.us It will find and remove possible spyware. I hate programs that settle down in the System Tray whether I asked them to or not. Possible culprits: Real player, Quick Time, various messengers, Seti@Home, browser quick-launch programs, and so on, and so on. Michelle, it's quite possible that PS7 gradually eats more and more memory and then trips itself. Or that it's a bug, if it always happens when you click on "Save As". Bryce sometimes has a habit of shutting itself without a word if you Undoed a lot of times in a row. Have you installed the 7.01 upgrade?
