Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 12:34 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 12:01 AM

Hey- Where can a regular joe like me find torn regular clothing for Poser and Daz folks? I aint talkin loin cloths-or fantasy stuff-just yur regular run of the mill clothes that are torn?

Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 12:35 PM

clothing torn like in accidents or struggles/fights - NOT torn deliberatly for fashion statements?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 12:41 PM

You need transparancy maps and that should do most of what you need.

jade_nyc ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 12:43 PM

If you own a 2D program such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop you can create your own torn clothing using transparency maps. Whatever is black on the transmap will make a 'hole' in the clothing.

DCArt ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 12:44 PM

You can transform any Poser clothing into torn clothing with a combination of painted textures and transparency maps. On the transparency map, any area that is black is "invisible", and any area that is white is opaque. You can see examples of this with eyelashes or eyebrows in many Poser figures. Then, on the "regular" texture, just paint some tear details around the edges of what you want "invisible" in the transparency map, and between the two you get what you want.

I have torn prison gear available at Poser-pros shop called "Chain-Gangz" And also in my "Wizard of Rawz" set (at DAZ) there are some really ragged clothes that come with the S-Crow character. (Shameless self promotion LOL)

There was a torn pants for Mike called Zombie pants. I can't remember from where I downloaded it, but the read-me says: If any questions contact me at Subway oblivion.com - Thanks, Bill Carboni.

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 3:30 PM

Mugsey Watch the language please. Lyrra

Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 3:38 PM

sorry Lyrra-the "DA**IT part of this is just my try at humor-and the spelling is DAM-as in "HOOVER DAM","TENNESSEE MOUNTAIN DAM","BEAVER DAM"-Type deal-not the "condemnation" variety, lol. I do hereby promise to refrain herein from being intentionally INOCUOSLY controversial,LOL...

Stormrage ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 4:56 PM

Mugsey.. tell me which clothing you want torn, ripped, dirtied, or worn and I can get it done fairly quickly. take a look at my worn armor textures for ideas of what i can do

Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 5:02 PM

Stormrage-any regular clothing that normal folks wear. I need casual (business wear)and formal(everyday clothes) regular clothes- I'm writing graphical stories in the sci-fi/horror genres and I need clothes in various states of disrepair for different crisis situations. default clothes already in poser and a few daz clothes for vicky 1 / 2 / 3 and Micheal 1 / 2 would help.

Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 5:08 PM

Anything you can throw my way as long as it's not the typical swords and sorcery stuff.

Stormrage ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 5:22 PM

mmm k will have a couple things later for you Really ragged, different stages and such ok?

Mugsey ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 5:25 PM

Mugsey ( ) posted Tue, 23 September 2003 at 1:14 AM

I already have have them Adele, thank you.-I'm looking for a variety of torn clothes...could do it myself if someone could do a tutorial or procedure sheet for me or something.

Grab a texture map (you can make one using the free uvmapper classic from uvmapper.com but SnowSultan does better ones by putting in a lot of work). Paint on the texture map as one would paint a pigment texture for the clothing, except that you paint white for where there is still cloth, black for where there is no cloth (e.g. torn away) and grey for thin/worn cloth. In addition you might want to modify any pigment textures so that there's white or "stressed" look around the tears, to make it look less liek the clothing has just ben cut ragged. That should be about the basics for a good start, though there's nothing like experience :)

Here's a good example. You can get this texture set for Posette's jeans by foxhollow at the at EroticScratchpad - don't look if you'll be blinded by male genital morphs :-)

Thank you-I have the torn jeans already-but it is wonderful that I have friends to help me with things-thank you. What I am looking for is a bit different-I am looking for clothes that are torn as if in a struggle,or as the result of an accident-like zombie clothes, nuclear survivor clothes,"I just crawled out of a crashed helicopter"clothes,"I've been living in the woods for fifteen years"clothes,"A mad gaurd dog just tried to have me for lunch"clothes, etc.LOL

lmckenzie ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:06 PM

Ah, you want the Geo. Bush in downtown Falluja sliced, diced, ripped and shredded look. If you want pieces of clothing hanging off, it might require modifying the geometry. It would be easy enough to "cut loose" some pieces and peel them back but I don't know how that would effect morphs and such. I suppose you could also just create some patches in a modeler, fold and bend them the way you need and then parent them to the garment, using the transparency map technique to create matching holes. Then again, all of that may be insane.

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 8:24 PM

Insanity or genius- flip a coin-it's relative... ANYWHO-yeah,that's about right, except I need varieing degrees of the "I SURVIVED THE APOCOLYPSE AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT" look.LOL

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sat, 27 September 2003 at 9:21 AM

Sounds like something with a number of "patches" that could be "torn" to varying degrees using morph dials would be needed - custom made and not requiring any messing with transparency. It's certainly doable - if you can find someone to do it :-)

Mugsey ( ) posted Sat, 27 September 2003 at 10:17 AM

yes-I could do that I guess,or-I could maqke this stuff myself if I could just grasp the basic methodology of a transparency map.

Here's a bunch of rips for you. Basically just cut one out and paste it on the transparency map. Mugsey a transparency map is easy black is what you get rid of white is what you keep. :) I am running a bit behind so maybe this will help a bit?

"Ahhhhh-yes grasshopper-you may leave the temple when finally-you can snatch the pebble from my hand..." YES-That is VERY helpful, thank you Stormrage!
