THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: oh oh...think I broke Bryce

JC_01 ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 1:45 PM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 3:34 PM

things aren't looking good.... everytime I try to open an object in bryce today, it freezes on me...and crashes... what i think may be the culprit.... I wanted to organize all my objects i save in the user files, so I could seperate by categories... I copied the rocks .obj from the installed folser, and pated it into the user folder, opened bryce and deleted all the rocks from it... copied it 4 more times, renaming each as I went to things like Jen's furniture, Jen's outdoor stuff etc. Next I went back and renamed user to collected, and opened bryce again, and began moving things from that folder into the others by opening the object, and adding it into the new slots where i want them... after I added them to the new slots, I deleted them from the original spot. after about 5 or 6 things moved like this, I can't open any of thos eimages, not even the simple ones without bryce freezing and "not responding" hellppppp LOL Jen

I have NO idea what has happened to your Bryce... (is your HD running full?) But the cup is very well modelled! AND textured! Well done!

Nice cup Jen! I hope you get your Bryce up and running soon.

Are you getting only black icons in the object libraries too?

Online Now!

Sounds like the 'Curse of the China Cup'. Everyone who makes a cup along these lines ends up with a major collapse............it's a Brycian thing..........

It sounds like one of your object catagories is corrupted. This has happened to me a dozen times: one of the objects in a catagory gets corrupted (for whatever reason...I don't know why this happens) and then that entire catagory is rendered useless. Whenever you try to import a model into a Bryce scene, is Bryce freezing up? Or does Bryce freeze up when you open a scene file? If your problem is the models, then you'll have to delete that object catagory (not the models) and start another one. A good rule of thumb is not to add too many objects to your catagories, because eventually one will become corrupted. Hope that helps! Doug

ocddoug, Yeah I noticed that too. I finally figured out - new project new category. no more than 7 or 8 objects in each category. move the file you suspect of being corrupt from bryce's folder explorer to a temporary one to see if that helps before deleteing anything.

Sounds like a problem ive had as well. It happened when i started to delete objects. Eventually the machine chewed for everything i did in Bryce. If you can, try to export the objects, delete the categories and create new ones. Hope you solve it!

I was thinking of a corrupt file too, but the only time my library files got corrupt the icons where gone too, that's why I asked :) I think the others have said it all now. There's not much I can add to it except for advising to always make backups.

I've never seen this happen...................yet. So I think I'll just go export all the things I've saved to Bryce in another folder, just to be on the safe side. Catlin

This happened to a scene I was working on. Unfortunately, I had to delete it, and then everything worked fine. Still haven't gone back to redo it.

What I would do is copy your br5's to a cd,then save your important objects on a cd or in a folder. Then uninstall Bryce and reinstall.Might help.

ok, I exported all the stuff I made, put them in a folder, deleted all the stuff in bryce except one blank obp and duplicated it making many categories...lol After about 8 hours I almost have everything re-imported, my stuff and all the stuff I've collected along the way...lol What takes so long is all those files I got that open with no textures, and I have to smooth and texture them before saving them....takes forever...lol Anyhow, I finally got rid of that bug and can now go into that section without freezing... Thanks to everyone for all the hints, ideas, and help! Jen
