Click on this link. Takes you to the Poser Forum Backroom (also accessible from the Poser Forum Masthead above). Click on FAQ 1st Q & A is your question. Many of the freebies are self-installing. If you open the zip and find the paths there, all you have to do is unzip the files into the Poser 4 root directory and all the parts will fall into the correct folders. Also, read the readme files that come in the zips. Hopefully, most artists are including instructions on how to install that particular freebie. Welcome to Poser! You're going to have a blast with it. Melanie
The most important seem to be Obj files. Some go into Geometries + some sub-directory and some into a specific Morph directory. If Poser cannot find these when you open a character of file, Poser locks up something awful. If Poser cannot find some other file, it's no big deal, but make sure these Obj file locations are correct.
Create "Download" File. Down Freebies (zip) to "Download" file Unzip Freebie to "unzip" file I open "unzip" file I open Poser's file>runtime>...you should get a list (see tasquah sample image) After draging items texture/object from unzip to texture/object in poser. Clip on "libraries" in Poser Clip on "libraries" in "unzip" Drag approprate file/folders Pose, Props, Camara, Lights, Characters, etc, from "Unzip" to "Poser". If there are no folders, check the read me to see where the files go. I hope I didn't make it too confusing. There are proably better ways, but I know where everything is this way.

I've found useful to have External Libraries. I've made a "C:PoserFiles" folder where I keep the dowloads, organized in subfolders. When it gets a size of about 500 Megs, I record a CD with them, clean the PoserFiles folder and begin again. I keep a text database of what each CD has, and I can also browse trough the CDs with P3dO In this way, the Poser folder doesn't get oversized. The props can be imported directly For the characters, I keep in their CD folders: a) a pz3 version to import, so I don't have to drag neither cr2s nor rsrs; b) the eventual specific textures, which Poser finds without trouble; c) the eventual geometries, which I drag to Runtimes> Geometries before importing the character (recorded with the eventual conversions from pcfs already made); d) the eventual bump files as bumpfiles (huge to store in the hard disk)--- Hope somebody finds it useful / Hope somebody helps me to improve my method /Hope everybody forgives my English (Mi idioma es el espal)
Amanda: If you want to know were a OBJ is suppose to go , the easyest way is to open the CR2 file with a text program like word . You will see something like this inside : ------------------------- {version { number 4.01 } figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:DAZPeople:blStephanie.obj ----------------------------- this says go to the runtime folder "Geometries" look for a folder there called "DAZPeople" and thats were you will find the OBJ called " blStephanie.obj " these folders names are case sensitive so if you make it your self it has to be exactly the same. "DAZPeople" is not the same as "dazpeople" .
Thanks for the heads up Shanna took care of the post. Like leather-guy suggests anytime there is a problem feel free to contact one of us through IM we are here to help in any way we can. :O)

Sorry for not sweeping through here earlier. My migraine has been kicking up badly, so I've spent most of the last 2 days trying not to think. I just logged on and got and checked IMs. That is the best way to call our attention to something. That virus which attaches porn links is pretty nasty, and we should probably pull out the thread where the fixed is laid out and stick it up in the FAQs or some other easy to find place. :sigh: Carolly

Hi. I am a newcomer to the wonderful world of 3D. Less than one week so it's a heavy learning curve for me ! I know Photoshop inside out but Poser is something unique. I have downloaded a few 'freebies' from sites but don't know how to get them into Poser 4. Please can someone let me into the secret. Regards Chris.
