Think Ive asked this question before maby but dont think I was specific enough...
Im running Vue an mover in mac and my question is:
Does it have to be OSX in the render machines in the network to be able to install rendercow to them?

Simple idea. Try it out. But i am nearly sure that it needs OS X. All Vue products that i know are OS X only. Again, easiest is to try it out.

Ok , Ill try.. To bad if i dont work.. I mean who can afford a couple of extra rendering computers that can run OSX...? maby e-on can make this a "think about" issue, I guess Im not the only "hobbyist" with this problem... : ) husse G.

Just keep in mind that this is hybrid networking; you could easily grab a couple of Windows boxes and use them for rendergardening. And useable ones can be had for between cheap and free, if you have friends with that 'disposable' mindset... ;)

Yes, this is possible. You can use rendercow (and Vue) on PC as well. If you can network your Mac with PCs (of course). Null problemo. Which means, you can have your Mac as the render server and your 500 windows boxes as render clients.

He he... just think about the possibilitis... But how do I install rendercow on a PC? I mean I only have the Mac version of Vue and Mover... husse G.

It isn't a Mac only version. That doen't exist. Place it into the cd drive of your PCs and find out!

Now were taking! Any suggestion on operating system XP, windows 2000 or what its called... forgive me, but Im a complete dummie when it comes to PC... sorry... husse G.

Doesn't matter really. Try what you have first. Or, if you buy something, there will be a OS anyway. Try that!

I was wondering about this myself. I have V4P running on a Windows XP workstation. But I also have an older iBook that I could plug into the mix. I'll give it a shot too.

The rendercows are not working for Windows 2000 and windows XP right now -- it is supposed to be fixed in the first update . . .

Well, the Vue PRO rendercows aren't functional. The Vue D'esprit 4/Mover 4 'cows are just fine and dandy. In fact, the latest 4.2 update contains a Cow update as well! As for the OS for a Windows renderbox, Vue Pro rendercows require Win2k or XP. For the Mover 4 for Vue 4, anything from Win95 on up.

One thing to bear in mind in terms of OS's; as far as I know, one restriction of XP home is that it's only able to see 5 machines on a network. Yeah I know, it's not that important to this thread but I just thought I'd mention it.

My Vue Pro Moos work fine. But as I said in another thread, I installed them AFTER having installed Mover 4 over Vue Pro.

When they get the PRO rendercow situation worked out, XP and 2000 (with 2000 being the best IMHO) are your ideal choices as far as OS's go. HOWEVER, if you're never going to use it for anything else and the systems already have 98 or ME them, just use those. That's one of (the many) nice thing about being on a PC platform ... rendercows could care less which OS you're using.
