Subject: question about Billy T products for Mac users

Gini ( ) posted Fri, 17 October 2003 at 5:29 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 4:47 PM

Have any Mac users bought and successfully converted and used any of Billy T's products ? They are all marked PC only- will mac converter sort it out or is there more to it than a simple format conversion ?

I have some of his free things and didn't have any trouble getting them installed. Now I just need the $ for the other things :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

maybe not in BillyT's case as much(though I don't know becasue I won't bother trying because of that cursed PC USERS ONLY note), but there are several veondors of GREAT products here who insist on making their products exclusively availabe for the PC in exclusion of all Mac users. How? We can open .zip files w/o any problem and convert the files for use on the platform with other utilities. What the problem is and where that "Exclusivity" comes in is when the vendors feel obligated to sell the product as .exe files. Executable files that come up with a schnazzy intro and graphics introducing their product and proceed to install the items in all the right Runtime folders. TO those merchants I say: Can we forego the schnazy intros and let us do the installing and simply sell us your product as a plain ole simple .zip file? Afterall properly Zipped files also instal in the Runtime folder..if I am not mistaken and you can beef up your sales a bit by letting us Mac "pariah" buy your product. But since that has repeatedly been too much to ask for this Mac Pariah will just buy elsewhere.

I have Billys Biker Jackets & lingerie. Just run them through macconverter. They work fine. There have been a rare few freebies posted as links here I've encountered that lead to .exe files. It does seem to be a blatant diss to mac users. But, I don't take it personally. There are lots of other modelers around we can take our business to. It's their loss.

I haven't come across exe. files yet in the rmp- mostly as I stick to products that actually say Mac compatable- but might give Billy T a go as there is something I REALLY want and it doesn't sound like they use exe. installers. Thanks all for the answers ! -Gini

I want snazzy intros !!!!!! Unstuffing, converting and installing is soooooo not very interesting. I had no idea of these delights PC users experience. The first I've heard of this thing . Would I change platforms ? NEVER but wistfully I do like the sound of snazzy intros.

Well as far as I know .exe files are NOT allowed on Rosity's marketplace. I think a lot of people mark their files as PC only becourse they do not HAVE a Mac to test it on, and they may be relying on betatesters who are also on PC's (some peeps prefer to let their well known friends do the testing) and therefore they mark the files as PC only just to make sure. I on the other hand mark my stuff PC/Mac without actually KNOWING if it's the truth G Well SOME of it HAS been tested on a mac, and as I reckon that if ONE wall works on a mac then all other walls work too, I mark it as Mac compatible. I have yet to hear from a Mac user who have had trouble, so I guess I am right in my assumptions :o) But yeah. A snazzy intro WOULD be cool ;o)

I think I've found only two poser things that didn't work on my mac, they also didn't like a lot of pc's either since the creator did strange things with the file packing, don't know if they were ever fixed

They do sometimes have exe's out ther .. or even exe's inside a zip file ..I have encountered that. But most work on both but soemtimes they have silly problems with file names ....

Well, I have now bought the Billy T things I wanted and they work a treat ! I've bought poses and textures in the past whether or not they were marked for mac and knew that would be fine. I just wasn't sure about .obj files. But now I guess I can be braver about that. The one time I did have a problem was with a product that WAS marked for BOTH platforms, turned out to be more of a ProPack issue though
