Subject: Fractal Tutorials Online?

Does anyone know of any good tutorials on the web for creating fractals? I'm talking about intermediate to advanced tutorials that go beyond the basics of how to use a particular program and discuss how to take an average image generated in a program and make it better. Many of the images I see in the gallery are amazing, but they clearly are not images that came straight from a fractal generator. Most have multiple layers or have had some other post work done in a graphics application like Photoshop. If anyone knows of any decent tutorials on the web, please share. I've also noticed that the fractal tutorial section here at renderosity is very bare. I see from other posts that there are at least a few artists planning tutorials. Hopefully some of the other excellent artists here are also planning on writing some tutorials. Please do. Thanks, Josh

UltraFractal has the capacity to layer fractals...some here are more than 200 layers! It has masking and transparency, merge modes between layers and many advanced graphic features, including rendering with antialiasing built right into the generator.

Fractals will always amaze me!

Flaming Pear (do a google search) has many filters (several free) that modify the structure/coloring etc. of your basic fractal images. They have their own tutorials with the product. Although a few fractal programs have their own filters and such to manipulate the image, sometimes it can be profitable (artistically speaking) to employ an off-base filter. The results should still be considered 'fractal', as the image is fractally derived. The best tutorials are the ones you discover yourself. ;) Stan

Hi Josh. :) Mindy and I run the Fractal Artists' Ring, and we've been slowly compiling some tutorial links; they're here: http://www.tcdesign.net/fractalpp_tutorials.htm Since we heartily believe in post-processing where appropriate to the piece, we do have some tutorials in there that deal with that issue, and will have more forthcoming. Hope it's of help to you, and if you have a website, you're welcome to join the ring any time -- we've been growing like crazy! :) Tina
