Subject: Asking for advice on WIP

Hello everyone. I am trying to improve my Vue renders. I would appreciate any advice on how to improve this scene especially to light the lady better. I have an alpha plane with a waterfall image in the scene. The waterfalls are actual geometry. thanks in advance. cheerio lululee

There are 1,008, 936 polygons. It took 34 minutes to render in VuePro.

Your picture looks fine as it is - but I think you should move the tree a bit, now it looks like it is growing in the water. And the rings in the water look very round, they need to be broken a bit to look more realistic. Haven't any idea how to do that though, they are an object, right? (And I'm not that experienced in Vue:-)) For the lightning try toning the overall lights down and use spotlights for lighting what you want to be in focus. Sometimes even a spotlight set at 5 or 10 makes a lot of difference. I'm looking forward to the finished picture - hope you can use some of my input. -Pixpax

I like the "feel" of the rings and waterfall. Like they're drawn in pastels. The waterfall texture would look good on an ice sculpture. Try adding point lights to illuminate the lady's left arm and under her chin. Also add some lighting to show up the tree trunk a little. Disable shadows in each of the lights to ensure that the scene still looks "normal". Finally, change the lady's clothing as what she's wearing doesn't look waterproof. ;-)

lululee look something... first .. use a cylinder for the small lake under of your lady and apply a water mat file to it make a terain around of this cylinder and make your water more transparent and put your cycle riples under of than water combine your transpar for the water, when u see the cycles maybe shall be better. for the waterfall maybe you need a terain with water map to it no alpha plane... it is my opinion... move your tree away from your waterlake... and used some more lights with soft blues lights with small power around of your scene .. maybe 5 spot lights .. and change your anbient in atm editor...Your tree looks very flat...Move your lady more right no so center of your scene.. maybe near of waterfalls....but carefully with your lights .. more lights around of scene for global lighting..I hope to help u ..sorry my english are bad:P AND every scene need her own lights ... maybe for yours need something like that:

I think you should move the figure out of dead center. Use the "rule of thirds" to compose your shot. Also, something in the foreground would be very nice, like part of a rock, etc. That would give you the figure in the mid field, a rock in the fore and the rest of the scenery in the background, which would create a lot of depth to the image.

The contrast between the tree and the terrain behind it doesn't match well. The tree trunk should be darker to match the materials that are nearby.

Just another thought... Lower the ambient value of the atmosphere and use additional lights (e.g. a spot on the tree from the side to give it more structure). Be careful with the light values though. Don't overexpose the scene. You may have to lower the values of some others.

I fell on your thread yesterday and cooked for you a little exemple of what can be obtained for the rings in the water. I simply loaded a bitmap in a terrain 512x512 applied clear water mat., inserted 'wavelet' in the bump function and a 0.8 blur in the reflection tab... I'm not good at all with Poser (for ex : never found out how to export hairstyles I always get a black cap !) so don't look at the lady ... If this idea interests you, maybe I can put the bump bitmap here on the forum for upload ?

Then this is the pict made with an inbuilt filter os PS (create the effect in a smaller pic then copy/paste the effect where you need it in a larger one...) you can paint some more noise where the waterfall hits the pond, even raise to brighter values, dots for water drops etc... good if it can be of any use.
