Thanx all for the appreciation showed for the unicorn image (link). Thought I would share how I constructed the horse with spheres.

Step 1: Break the form of Horse into simpler constituent primitive shapes and forms.

Step 2: Multirep spheres to approximate the primitives. Step 3: Assemble each of the body areas separately and then group them. Step 5: Bring the groups together to create the animal.

This came about when I found that in my experimentation with multireplication, that it was possible to bring about near organic shapes. Instead of putting in detailed step by step, I decided to put up the various stages of construction, which makes the process pretty self evident.

Ummm well all queries other then asking How many spheres I used?!!!! Theres no way you guys are going to get me to count allllllllllll those spheres! :oP

And here's the final Unicorn. The tail was created with spheres attached to a path, which allowed me to curve as well as pose it. The Horn is a diminishing multi-replicated Torrus.

Also humorx I put a freebie up a while ago called smartpipe for bryce 5. It is a 300 metaball string all attached to apath so you can pose it inot cables, hoses, pipes, wire, etc, much as you have done with the tail. Thanx Madmax! Can't see how I can put it up for download Madmax. Its over 30 MB unzipped! :( Even if I zipped it, its going to be a b***h to upload over a dial-up connection, and also where would I host it? But if I did offer it for download, I guess I would have to make it poseable, which will be quite a challenge in itself!! :P Let's see if a solution can be worked out.

Yep, Wow...That is one fine piece of brycing. You lost me on the first shot in your series of pics LOL. Avi, it is great to see you back doing this sort of stuff - art and being helpful. You are the only person I've ever seen create these wonderful figures in Bryce and you do it so well. The task seems impossible but I'm going to have to try to do something with your technique, it makes for quite outstanding figures. 8) Catlin

Hey thanx a lot folks! :) Rayraz, the neck was finetuned and developed between steps 4 and 5. In 5 you see some of the multireplication created primitives which I used to create the horse. I left them there so that you would have an idea of what the "primitives" I was talking about were. :P Guess I should have explained better. I would further tweak these primitives by transforming them (rotating, scaling etc) along object co-ords, world co-ords, by grouping and at times ungrouping them.

The main rows of spheres from step 4 seem to have rotated to another position between step 4 and 5 but I can't figure out how you rotated them, along which axis and such.

Hi! I wish I could...but I just didn't keep track of all the steps. It involved some amount of trial and error and playing around with the multi-repplication in different settings. Sorry. But next time I attempt to do something like this I promise to keep better track of what I'm doing. Rayraz, I think I assembled step 5 anew. So I was incorrect in showing step 4 leading to step 5. For after working it for a while I saw that the forms in step 4 were not adding up, thus decided to do it anew in step 5. Sorry for the delayed response rayraz. Thanx! :)
