this post is mainly for riddokun, but it's open for anyone who wants to give feedback. I'm a fan of riddokun's DOA eyes, and I decided to make the male characters of my comic with those eyes, so i had to make my own mat files... I DO know they look weird, I do know the eyes look too colorful and fantastic next to the natural skin tones... but sincerely I don't care! If real body and head proportions was an issue, we would never have had any manga (are there any eyes bigger than the ones found in manga?) anyway, here's 2 of my characters... they were made with the bishonen pack.. and yes, i tried to make them look feminine, and I think the effect was accomplished. Ooooh, I love the character with the green eyes!!! He looks really interesting!

wow, strange ! i mean how did you ligthen up like this ? you used "ambiant color" or something ? because usually they are less bright and colorfull... anyway this look good (but would need a toon /cellshading/z toon render to suits the theme more) anyway i know the V2/v3/p4 versiosn are one step late compared to mayadoll (i favor mayadoll's versions first, i admit), but i will soon make new version, i hope, for other charatcers and will ry to make both fantasy and natural color tones (much as mayadoll's v2.1 of them) but it is a huge amount of work (especially making 33poze / mat fils for each characters included, means 4 or so... p4, v2,, steph, v3 and maybe eve :( also as i told you in a private message, i did no intend them for males at first, but if someone dare to try, so the better, i can see the result now :) I still suggest to copy/past some of the N_tones (natural) from mayadoll version to make a try too...

ps: the left guy is DEFINITLY looking as the typical "col boy" in girl oriented mangas.. (you know the one every classmate just dream of dating :), i mean typical face, typical aircut, he is just perfect :)

I think you have created wonderful characters - the eyes add an extra dimension that is very enticing, and in keeping with the style.

hey, thanks to all for the nice feedback... and here I was thinking I was going to be flamed or something... hmm, they don't look feminine?? well, the bishonen package kind of makes all male characters look girly by default, but maybe it's not that notorious here, and I'm glad to see that the "manga" look seems to have been accomplished without really stating it. I tweaked the eyes like crazy... in Victoria3 characters things were really easy, I just put the big eyes morph to 0.347 and all of riddokun's eyes fit perfect, but for V2/M2/Steph charactersa I have to work them by hand... thanks whoever for the alien eyes, that's what has helped me the most. I'll try again with the mayadoll eyes... for some reason, I thought the mayadoll eyes and the unviersal eyes wereb the same... i didn't realize the MD were more natural... we'll see. thanks again for the constructive feedback! hmm, i forgot to add... I did work the eyes a LITTLE bit in photoshop 7, but not that much... I think it was mainly the poser lights that lightened up the eyes.

Riddokun ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 7:13 PM

though it is a bit contradictory with the "anime" flavor intended, i think i will forget about the custom fake reflection directly on the texture for further versions... I think i will resort to highlights or reflection maps in the MAT/pose files (optional) and keep a clean iris texture without highlight so users can fake it the way they want (using for exemple a smartprop, or the outer eye matrerial for maya's doll eyes, or making their own fake outer eyeball sphere much in the way of blackhearted eyes) I think i will keep fake reflection for an eventual bishoujo/manga like eyes i may make someday (and so it is not same as DOAnime eye brand) I began this morning to work again on my eyes...damn it was so long, i forgot most of the tricks and habits i had. NEarly restarting from scratch :(

hmm, the fake refelction on the reflection maps?? sounds interesting... be sure I'll be testing them out! Max

Beautiful characters! I'm a big fan of Riddoken's eyes too. :-) What hair have you used on both of them?
