Subject: VUE 4 PRO news: DEMO in the works...

"Hi richard, I understand your point. The demo version is in the works and should be released within a couple of months. There is a lot more to Vue Pro than just the dynamics and integration. There are a lot of new rendering technologies, the ability to export to other applications, support for professional compositing applications, object decimation for faster setups, python scripting to write your own effects, etc. You'll be able to see that when the demo is released :-) You are right about hair and cloth. There is no native support for these in Vue 4 Pro. Best regards. Steve Bell" i wrote in asking about a demo. vue 4 pro seems like a nice program but hardly worth the upgrade price, imo. that's just based on what i've seen. i told them a demo was in order and this is the reply. so they may make a believer out of me after all... who knows. all of you who already own pro, what's one feature it lacks that you really want or wish for?

a little object that would allow you to render a portion of it anything...like Bryce's little paint brush tool..Sharen

Can you make a small selection of your image to render in Vue Pro like one can in Vue d'Esprit 4?

Yes, and that almost accomplishes what Sharen wants.

*"all of you who already own pro, what's one feature it lacks that you really want or wish for?"*

If you care to look at some of my problems (mostly with Vue's Animation problems) in this recent post, I can tell you what is still lacking and what has been corrected:

  1. Improved, but still the timeline does not scroll smoothly afterwards. But somewhat bareable now I suppose.

  2. Still no cut/copy/paste of keyframes. Shame-shame. But multiple (user settable no less) levels of UNDO. Finally! Bravo Eon.

3a - 3c) Keyframing is still a virtual nightmare in Vue Pro. No bonus points there, Vue 5 maybe they'll overhall it?

  1. Happily, this has been addressed, and now as far as I can tell works quite well. Still not as intuitive as say Poser or even Bryce, but much better -- with some added switches.

  2. Don;t know yet, probably still flicker issues. But there is a nice section in the back of the Pro manual that addresses this issue straight on. Looking forward to trying some of their tips, as well as others mentione here.

6)YES! Supposedly will convert tmp files after any abnormal interuption of the render. But you still can't check the progress of your render because of this bizarre setup. Oh well.

  1. Glad to report OpenGL is MUCH better in this release. However, that is not saying much. I would still say it is not great (in fact, I'm getting crashes to the desktop quite a lot more often now) and it is still very slow compared to Bryce, Poser, 3DS MAX, etc., etc.

I've found that maximizing the main window speeds up the interface and camera movements quite a bit.

  1. Same unfortunately.

  2. YES! You can now turn off auto-keying on a per object basis. Still no universal toggle, but this will do quite well I suppose. Would still like to see a universal toggle at some point.

There are a lot of minor interface tweaks/additions that may go unnoticed by some, but they are very much welcomed and streamline some things a bit. -Tim

auto compatability with the older mats and models. Still have problems with that.

a little object that would allow you to render a portion of it anything. But Vue does this already. As well Vue 4 as Vue Pro. you can render a part of the image or just an object or a part of an object:-) Guitta

MixedNut ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 10:16 AM

Functional network rendering..

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 11:06 AM

It never crashes for me. Do you get an error message? Are you using the Material Summary to change textures? If not, try with it. Guitta

timoteo1 ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 11:47 AM

Guitta: But that's not exactly what she is talking about. Sharen means a spray can tool where you can literally use a brush type render effect. The one in Vue IS very useful and I believe is called a plop render in Bryce. Bryce does both.

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 11:53 AM

Ah? I don't have Bryce, that's why I did not know it was so different:-)
