"I want to be what I was
when I wanted to be what I am now"
Hi jaydiva, I'm not sure on any limits, but I would keep things to a minimum. Bryce has to load all of the presets each time you start the program, so the more you have the slower Bryce can get. Also, these files can grow to 100s of MB for each preset. This really can cause your hard drive to become fragmented, which can also cause your computer to start running slower. My rule of thumb is if I am going to use the object for many pictures, then it stays in a preset, otherwise I create it in one of my temporary preset folders and when I am done, I export it. That way I can use it again if I want, but it is not slowing things down. Materials though, I tend to keep all of them in presets. So far I have 4 folders with 14 presets in each folder. These are the ones you really need to keep organized. I don't know how many times I have searched through the presets looking for a water material only to find it in the misc preset! Now I have four presets just for water - clear water, ocean water, foamy water, and weird water. Peggy

I've got one that is totally dedicated to Poser figures, clothes, eyes, etc. That way whenever I import a Poser figure I've already got all the textures I need and no longer have to go look for them. This is just a new way I've discovered of doing things and I would say it's one of my better ideas. 8) Catlin
hmm..I've already done the organizing thing, based on previous threads on this subject. When I had them all in one User directory, I think I got up to around 250 or so before it started freakin' out..;) I've noticed that each folder tends to be about the same size, regardless of what's in it (if you did it the way I did, and skipped some steps..;). But having individual folders (I have things like Organics, Building Materials, Metals) really speeds up the mat selection process (2nd only the Rendering, the way I work..;)

Well, I have wanted to complete this tutorial on how to organize the Bryce preset folders for over a year now. It is finally done (I think)! Anyway, since I had to re-install Bryce, it was a perfect time for me to get the screen captures I needed and to try to organize my own folders. Hope this helps someone else too! Happy Rendering!
