Subject: Fur in Bryce

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how to render fur in Bryce? Aside from modeling individual hairs or adding it in postwork. The kind of fur I have in mind would be on a teddy bear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to spend a while making a volumetric material that looks the part. There is no other good way to do it. Use a high base density, maximum edge softness, and a medium fuzzy factor. Try tweaking one of the cloud presets maybe?

the only thing I can think is a good material. I've tried it once, but it's a real pain in the arse. Here is the link to my image, tell me if you are interested. Vasquez

I found a fur mat..hang tite. Ok, it's called 'Kin Fur', and it's at Lunariad's site (nice collection of mats). Now if someone could find a nice *hair* mat, we'd all be happy..;)

I have 2 semi-ok hair materials. The both kinda suck but oh well. I'll post them as soon as my render finishes.

Thanks for your links. I like the effect in your image vasquez, but it isn't the effect I am looking for. I need something thicker and more random, the material on www.lunariad.com isn't exactly what I'm looking for either. I think to get the proper effect I will need to add it in post which really kind of messes up my idea for the entire piece.

At the Lunariad site there are two mats called brown fur and red fur, they can be found in the Animal section. I'll give them a try and get back to you with the results. 8) Catlin

Well I tried out the brown hair, (not fur), and the kinfur, and neither of them look much like fur. Although the brown hair could possibly look more like fur with a lot of tweaking. 8) Catlin

Personally I like have a fur/hair plugin one of the best goodies I've ever found for Max, anyone want to find one for Bryce?
