Is this sky similar to what you were asking about? The lightening was done in Thor.Would anyone be interested in a lightening pack? Tootles, Marge

What's Thor and where do you get it from?

quesswho ( ) posted Wed, 09 August 2000 at 9:04 AM

Its a plug-in for RDS. Now to remember where I got it. Marge

It's by Zenstar. Marge

Hi I found that on the web and they do a standalone version for exporting the lightening, It's quite cheap but I was wondering how you did the material for the lightening in Vue, I have downloaded a sample object and was playing with it but I cannot get it to look anything like lightening when I render. How'd you get yours working like that? Best wishes Jody

I used the lightbeam preset put the ambient light to 320 and changed the color to white. Thats about it. Thor is a fun program I am glad they have a standalone. Marge

Hmm Can't seem to get it 'right' it looks too 3 dimensional with shadows and no brightness. I suspect my problem is that I don't use ambient lights only sunlight. I hate the 'glow' that ambient scenes have, rocks don't glow in reality. What's your sky set-up? Best wishes Jody

I started with one of the presets(that had light behind the clouds) and went from there. I changed everything except the postion of the sun. Added cloud layers , changed their color I used mostly yellow, orange and blue. Just kept playing and got 4 different skys that I liked for storms. Marge

heya; jarm, when you crank up the ambient thing to make 'glowing' objects, remember to uncheck 'cast shadows' on the material options across the top. also, you don't set the ambient LIGHT in the scene to 320... in the materials (the last tab) is where you control the diffuse/ambient light of the particular material. quess: i like this sky a lot! but... it's not exactly what i meant. what i mean is... when i go out and there's a storm approaching at a certain time of day, the clouds cast a kinda orange or burnt sienna light on everything. it's not the sky in particular i mean, it's how the landscape looks under this particular light. it's very odd and hard to describe (let alone capture). ya know what i mean? :)

heyas; i'm thinking the setting has to be an ambient light colour thing... because it occurs when the clouds obscure the sun, and it's seemingly all-pervasive. haven't had time to mess with it. :/

Bloodsong, I do know what you mean. Nedrah (hi by the way) is right the lighting is what will give the pic the glow you are looking for. As for me I am trying to get the skys with the correct look and the lighting is something else that is added to achieve the effect that is desired. Marge BTW we had very hi humidity and dewpoint here so a rainbow was in the sky and having nothing to do we followed it to where it seemed to meet the ground, or as close as we could get. The ground, sky everything had a golden color it was beautiful and made me realize why they say there is gold at the end of a rainbow. Marge

Heyas, I was just wondering where I could get (standalone) Thor from? Is it just for lightening? How much is it worth?

quesswho ( ) posted Thu, 10 August 2000 at 10:13 AM
