Ok so here is what I was aking earlier, I am making a gold coin to illustrate my point. The image was made in Photoshop 7, 1024 x 1024 at 500ppi, is that still not big enough!!?? or am I doing somthing wrong in bryce (I suspect this is the case!).

Check the anti aliasing section..seems that's the probs... make sure anti alaising is on. but..er..um..I actually like the way the coin is now!! tell me I'm nuts!

What's your terrain settings? Set the terrain resolution in Bryce before you apply the image in the terrain editor.. (see a post from me last week :)

I think ppi only matters if you are printing an image. I use 72 ppi for everything I take into Bryce with no problems.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Tue, 18 November 2003 at 5:37 PM

Aye, the DPI (PPI) settings you posted, "1024x1024 at 500 ppi" are irrelelvant in this case. 1024x1024 at 500 DPI would produce an image about 2 inches by 2 inches, if you were to print it. Printing resolution, inside Bryce, means nothing Acorn. If you want a smoother coin, you simply raise the original resolution up to 2048 or godforbid 4096. But unless you plan on only having one or two coins in the scene, this method of modeling is entirely impractical.... Having a coin with MILLIONS of polygons isn't too efficient. Try using boolean modeling, if you are only using Bryce. You should be able to make this coin with just a few objects...

Zhann ( ) posted Tue, 18 November 2003 at 5:55 PM

You DON'T have to select the resolution BEFORE you import, once you import the PS image if it doesn't look okay you can INCREASE the resolution by selecting the res you want and then hit the 'APPLY' and wait a few seconds and Bryce will apply the new res..... DPI is only good for print res, not terrain or lattice res.
