they're often interchangeable. A mesh is a model, often with an extension of .obj, .3ds, .dxf, etc. A prop is often much the same thing. Props are also .pp2, etc extension files, that are used in a program called Poser.
If you go the the Freestuff area here, and search under Bryce, you'll find a lot of props and meshes available. Once unzipped, you usually can File|Import Object into a Bryce scene, and texture it with the 'm' button. Or stretch, or resize, or reorient (some formats come in facing straight up, usually a -90 setting on the 'X' orientation will take care of that. Once you're comfortable with objects, props, and meshes, you can even make your own with Wings 3d,Anim8tor (free), or even a spendy program. Try this out, and have fun.

I have over 3000 files in obj format that were originaly in Poser PP2 or CR2 format. I boutht a magazine a couple of years ago with Poser 3 free inside. With Poser, I load the pp2 file (or rename a CR2 to PP2 if there is only a CR2)and export the file in OBJ format (usely with all the textures that are in the zip file). I can now import all these files in Bryce without any problem. I think you'll find Poser 3 on some Internet sites. All you have to do after getting it is to download the thousands of files that are free here at Renderosity, 3D Communes, Runtime DNA and others. Good luck
It really shouldn't be called a mesh, it's misleading. Especially for those of us with outside-bryce modeling experience, and ESPECIALLY for those of us with 3D Game design experience. Back where i come from, the Half-Life 3rd part developing communities, a mesh is a 2d image of the wireframe (every single part that requires a seperate, or even slightly different texture mapping) on a black background, creating the guides and outlines for texturing.
You can get Poser 3 from back issues of 3D World, Digit, Computer Art, etc., for about the cost of an issue ($13-15 in my neck of the woods). You can get Poser 5 for only 20 times this price..;) Poser 4 has taken a pasadena, and is now Poser Artist, but I've heard that the Propack stuff isn't included, wonder if the Propack for 4 works on Poser artist..anyone know?

There is a utility by anthony appleyard to change poser rsr files to objects. This link downloads it. Poser calls anything that has bones a character. Anything that doesn't have joints and bones is a prop. Both are made of points with a texture strung over them and are called meshes. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience.
