Subject: Help! Skin texture makers, V3 eyebrow nightmare!

Dear All, I am just beginning to attempt to learn how to make body textures. I have started w/ V3. From reading here last night I discovered that Some other experienced texture makers has experienced a simular problem. The eyebrows are just not working right. I though, unlike many of you have started w/ a kit Called Elements by Dalanise. It has the base texture and some other stuff that you can add on and build from. It came w/ transmaps only of Brows only. So I opened up the other textures I have to examine them. When I did I discovered that the brows were painted on the map but they didn't have any texture map assigned to the brows in the material lab (only transmaps) . So I tried just using the transmaps but it didn't work. they just weren't there. So then I painted some on using some custom brushes that I made for photoshop by inverting the transmap that was included. Then I put the matching transmap into the transparancy channel. Still looked wierd. Then, I did it w/o the transmap. It of course didn't look right, but amazingly better than the other times. So anyone have a solution? .... What about those eyebrows? How do I go about doing them? Thanks! Star****

Are you using P4 or P5? It's basically the same method but the terms might be a bit confusing from one to the other. Basically, the easiest way to do it, and the way most texture makers use, is to make the eyebrows totally transparent (so transparency value of 1.0 and falloff of 0) and just paint the eyebrows onto the head map. Don't put any map onto the eyebrow material, just leave 'em transparent. Your other choice is to plug the transmap into the trans node with a trans value of 1.0 and set the diffuse colour to black or dark brown. the main problem I have with V3 is that her material zones work differently to V2, so it's difficult to remember what material to put where :-)

Thanks, I will give it a go. I am using P5 but am very familiar w/ P4 also. Yeah, the transparency was giving me a headache. Like I said, even experienced texture creators seem to be having trouble w/ them. I was having trouble w/ the location too. But I have never did any body textures at all. Star****

When I create my textures I use both the lower head surfaces and the upper brow trans-map as well. I refer to it as the bi-brow method. In comparison V3's brows are much easier to create than Stephanies - her face maps have a number of unwanted distortions.

The jpg above is from my custom V3 map for Vista V3 (link provided to see what her brows are like) the outer green line that lies in the eyebrow area is the out very edge of the upper brows. You will be able to track the upper one by this area as other eye sections in the face - use the map as you wish and paste it into your own map as reference.

The map under mine is Victoria 3 Head/Body Seam Guides by SnowSultan - He makes wounderful seam guides and his work is great help in making any texture - always a must.(free stuff)

Thanks a bunch Mac! I saved it and will go get the seam guides you mentioned too. I have to break from trying to learn modeling. If I work on one or the other too long it gets tiresome and boring. lol. Especially when I get stuck on something like this. Thanks again, Star****
