Subject: OK I'm getting worried now. Anybody here from Liverpool area?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 6:22 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 3:22 PM

Seriously, I'm worried for ziggie. He seems to have fallen off the planet and well... It's just not like him to be offline for so long. His last login here was on the 10th, more than 2 weeks ago now. I've tried to e-mail him and even sent him a real letter, but I got no response and now I'm really not confortable with this any more. Anybody here from the Liverpool/Bootle area? Please IM me.

That is strange, and very unlike ziggie to worry a friend. I hope he answers soon, and that nothing serious has happened. I know he must appreciate having a friend like you. Take care and good luck!!!

I wish I was in that area so I could pop round to see if he's ok but I'm all the way down in London. I really hope he's ok :(

If he's on the telephone but you don't know the number, try the BT directory enquiries. I assume you know his real name and address.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 7:28 AM

I tried the online telephone directories allready :o( Seems he's not listed. I asked him once and he said something like he just "never got around to it" I DO have his real name and adress, yes. Not sure if there's any other way to find people? There is here, but then again Danes are apparently registred from head to toe compare to other countries G I can't help worrying if he's ill or something. Both worrying about him, but also his 2 dogs :o(

Phone the Police I am sure they would go around and check for you.

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 8:35 AM

that's a pretty good idea Oscar, I'm sure there'll be a local station that could send round an officer or 2 to see if he's ok.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 9:11 AM

Yeah but... well.. they'd probably think it was some kind of a prank if I called them and said I was phoning from Denmark just to check on a guy I know from the 'net, wouldn't they? The idea is good though. Anybody know where I might find a telephone number or an adress of a nearby station? And WOULD there be a local station at all? (there aren't any "local" stations here, that's why I ask) Hmm then next is to phone to ANYBODY abroad at all... I'm not good at things like that. They speak foreign languages over there. And last time I spoke to ziggie (on Skype) he spoke so darned fast... even when he claimed he didn't... sigh I know it's probably silly. But I miss him and I don't like this absence at all :o(

Gosh, I miss him too, ernyoka1 and I do hope everything is ok with him. Please keep us informed. I live in the states so I haven't a clue as to how to locate his number, but if there is anything else I could do to help, please let me know. genny

If he's in Bootle, his local station would probably be the one linked above...

ernyoka1 - the suggestion made by oscar to ring the local police station is a very good one - they will surely send a local beat constable to the address to check - British police are very good this way!! They will understand that you are worried if you explain what you said here. I do hope everything is OK.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 11:42 AM

OK, I have found a telephone number now. I'll try phoning it in the morning (since it's evening now. I guess it's better to do it in normal business hours) I just hope I can understand the guy in the other end of the line... Any native english speaking people volounteering for the call? sigh Ah well, I guess I'm the one who is searching for him, so I better try the call. I just HOPE they won't think it's a prank. Oh and I hope the telephone at work is capable of long distance calls, I'm not sure, but I'll have to try.

Ernyoka -I am British and if you are really not happy to do it - I can ring for you if you want me to!! Just let me know and I will be happy to help. Angela.

Well....one time when I was having a pretty rough time of it, a friend of mine in another state called the police to have them come check on me, and they did. Course, I am in the States, but I imagine that things may work very similarly? I would hope so anyway...a little human kindness goes so far. You are truly a wonderful friend ernyoka. :)

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 12:42 PM

His website looks as if it is down as well. That isn't all that meaningful, but it doesn't make me feel any better. I know one thing, if I'm ever in trouble, I'd want a friend like ernyoka looking out for me.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 1:05 PM

Thanks for the offer Angela. I think I'll try tomorrow, and then see IF I can phone abroad from work at all. If I can't, then I'd be happy for some help.

I just checked his website too, dialyn. While it MAY be totally unrelated, it COULD also mean that he is merely expiriencing web problems. Perhaps something as silly as a bill not being paid in time? Some companies are very fast on the switch if a payment is delayed of any reason. And they're usually not as fast when it comes to reopening your line. I once had my phone shut off for almost 2 weeks becourse of a misunderstanding sigh Crossing fingers, but this gives me a little hope though. And I'll still try to get in touch with someone over there tomorrow.

Oh, I know the website could be completely unrelated. I'm not trying to panic anyone at all. I just hope you are able to reach ziggie and let him know that a lot of people care enough to worry about him. That may be something he needs to know.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 2:03 PM

Are there other circumstances that might cause you to worry? It could simply be a situation of him being disconnected for a while. I know I have been having problems with Adelphia power link as of late.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 2:16 PM

PapaBlueMarlin, it just puzzles me, becourse I know he was in the middle of a christmas project (one of his usual gorgeous freebies) And then all of a sudden he goes totally offline. We normally chat on msn every night but I haven't heard a word from him for more than 2 weeks now, not in weekends either. And he hasn't logged on to Rosity since the 10th, also very unlikely UNLESS he is having major problems of some kind, be it webrelated or not. I have also written him a real letter last week, with my phone number and a plea that he got in touch, just to say he was ok, providing he WAS ok. Also I know x-mas is a hard time of the year for him, and eventhough it's not x-mas yet, it IS the cause for concern. It seems unlikely to me if it is solely web problem that he hasn't even checked his e-mail from a friend's house or something. And well... he's nok a kid, so.... But let's see what happens tomorrow :o) Thanks for your warm thoughts and support everyone :o) I know it'll mean a lot to Ziggie to know it and it sure means a lot to ME!

'Danes are apparently registred from head to toe compare to other countries' Not really, ernyoka. It's just that britain is one of the few countries in the world which doesn't have identity cards or any other form of compulsory cards for it's citizens. Britain has always been proud of it's record in citizens' privacy and the fact that we don't have an armed police force. Although this may change as there are plans afoot to introduce identity cards soon. Complete with fingerprints and retinal ID, no less. I live in italy now and it's compulsory to carry your ID card here at all times. The (heavily armed) police get very nervous if you can't prove who you are. Mind you, they're all mad here! LOL. mac PD Hope you find ziggie OK.

dogsbody ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 5:05 PM

Britain doesn't have an armed Police force? Oh really? Tell that to the West Midlands constabulary! Although it is true that they don't carry firearms as a matter of course. Tell the truth, I feel sorry for the poor sods having to stroll around wearing stab vests and utility belts, makes Batman look naked. Ernyoka, we had a bad mail strike here a couple of weeks back, it seems to me that international mail has been especially badly disrupted, I'm still waiting for a CD from PhilC that he mailed weeks ago. If you want to drop me a line with a message and address, I can stick it in the post first class tomorrow, that should get to the destination Friday. Or I could mail it 'recorded delivery', which means it has to be signed for. It does take a while to track tho. If someone is going to phone the local nick, let's get organised so that everyone doesn't do it :) I'm open to IM's if you need my help Dogsbody

Silke ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2003 at 5:56 PM

I'm near London, also willing to help here. (No that's nowhere near Liverpool) But Dogsbody is right, we had a mail strike. And the recorded delivery sounds like a good idea. Calling the police would probably just freak him out lol. I'm not sure what happened to www.192.com (It seems to be down) but that might be a way to find him (or a number) or a neighbor... Silke
