Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 23 9:03 pm)
Hmmm, I change lights all the time - run the Python script by ockham for deleting all lights - and add new lights, no prob. And don't forget that SR3 removes all this nasty protection stuff that came with Poser 5. That alone was worth updating.

I never installed SR3 and probably won't install SR4 :) I've managed to figure out the nuances of the beast and don't want to waste time learning new ones. The protection stuff was actually removed with the earlier release, except for the lame effort to connect to "Paradise Lost"....which I've set my firewall to prevent :) Aside from that, it works pretty good.
Nope, SR3 was the last release before Kupa left CL and this was the update patch that removed the protection software that came with P5. I just got a new PC and had to install everything new and the only patches I installed were the figure updater from SR1 and SR3.

You are correct layingback. SR2-1 was the last release I installed because SR2 was so crucial and it did get rid of the Interlok that was causing so many people problems. In fact I installed that before I ever ran Poser 5 (along with the figure updaters) If you open the readme on line for SR3, you can see what's improved and the speed is the major one. It may be that SR3 eliminates the habit Poser 5 has of still trying to connect with the internet. My firewall prevents it from making any connections, but I can still run the program quite successfully. I would guess that if the security mechanism were still in place, I wouldn't be able to run Poser 5 until the connection had been established.
sandoppe, just for clarification, there are 2 separate mechanisms at play here. The security code was all Interlok (PACE's), and is removed with SR2-1 - strictly it isn't removed from your system, just disconnected from Poser 5 so P5 is no longer a "watched" app. The Poser "habit" of accessing the 'Net is actually present in all versiosn from P4 on, although it is changed slightly with P5 it's functionality os much the same. It's not really trying to connect to the Internet, as much as trying to connect to any other Poser app on the network (to check that it's not another copy of itself), but the way it's implemented is rather broad, so it will try to connect to the Internet too - at least once. As far as we can tell - there was a thread on this some time back - it's not trying to "call home" per se. The ability to do that was part of the Interlok code, but whether it was actually ever used beyond the initial registration we have no way of knowing - most likely not given all the other issues CL had at that time. Personally - and I was very active in the "Pay Beta" of Poser 5 2.x - I could see no real change pre/post installing SR3. Certainly didn't destabilize anything, and didn't seem to change anything much, other than the re-load time. Initial load time was as bad or very slightly worse.
Thanks for the clarification layback :) It didn't look to me like there was much in the way of change either (from reading posts of other users) which is why I never installed SR3. Initial load is slow and I recall reading in a previous post that SR3 didn't improve that. I don't find reload to be that bad right now. Since I mostly use Poser to "pose" for rendering in Vue 4.2, I will likely wait until there is a more significant upgrade released.

does anyone know if curious labs will release a fourth SR?
