Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I wrote the forum and there is confusion about whether low res is the same as reduced res? Yes, in this situation it's the same. DAZ probably doesn't call these figures low-res because they aren't ... they still have higher polycounts than Posette and the P4 Male, for instance. But they do have lower polycounts than the original Victoria and Michael figures, so they're lower or reduced in that sense. And in any case, motura's CR2 is meant for use with Victoria Reduced Resolution (1 or 2). It needs the blMilWomlo.obj file, and the morphs are made for that geometry. If you have one of those figures installed in the default location, the CR2 should work.
a cr2 calls a geometry (obj) file as long as you have the OBJ it wants, and in the right place, it will work. To find out what obj your boy file wants open its cr2 in WordPad. Search for "onj'. You should find a path that looks something like this Runtime:geometries:DAZ:People:blMilwmnLo.obj If your boy's obj request matches the name of the obj that you got with your low polky Victoria you're good. You may need to edit the boy's cr2 to point to the right dir in that case. This is a common problem. If the OBJ do NOT match then you need to find what model has the obj the boy figure wants. And to further confuse the issue, if I'm not mistaken thats the Victoria 1 that was included with the free Poser 3? That model has been modified to work with Poser 3 and may in fact be different. I don't have exact info on that.
There are two versions. (not interchangable of course) blMilWomlo.obj blMilWomloNG.obj Now we need someone to explain what is what. I don't know either. I wanted a Low version and on the magazines and CD's they give away a reduced resolution with an awfull chest. DAZ , or anyone, help us. Personally I think there is a (misplaced) lack of interest in the low poly figures, and secondly there should be a figure between the P4-Lo and Posette (number of poly count). Tony

I couldn't resist a mystery, so I dug through my Vicky collection and found a LoRes Vicky 1, and LoRes Vicky 2 Model. Both say "LoResolution," rather than Reduced Resolution during the install process, and in the Character Library. I'd assume that "LoRes" & "ReducedRes" mean the same thing. Here are the geometry files for each model: Vicki 1 LoRes: blMilWomLo.obj Vicki 2 LoRes: blMilWomLo.obj blMilWomLoP4.obj (Victoria2 P4)
Progress report: It seems that the free RR stuff that I got from DAZ is blMilWomloNG.obj which I assmume means no genitals, since the michael and viki RRs have no genitals. Vilters mentioned this NG file above. The other file mentioned by Vilters is blMilWomlo.obj. This is indeed what Motura's cr2 file seems to be looking for, but I can't find it anywhere. Meanwhile, I got back from DAZ the following e-mail "I'm sorry, when I checked on the low res vs reduced res, I was told that they were different, but I misunderstood the differences. Basically the low res and reduced res do use the same mesh." That is all. What does "basically" mean and does that help me with my problem? So I don't know what to think and am still stuck. If low res and RR are actually the same then where did anyone get low res, and does it have genitals or not? Or is DAZ as confused as I am, or what? Got to run. Thought I would keep anyone who is interested in this mystery up to date.

I feel like I am going in circles with my low res versus reduced res Viki questions. Am I the only one? Below is a cut/paste of my attempt by e-mail to get clarity. Perhaps someone in the forum will understand what I am asking and can help resolve the matter, or at least will find all this entertaining! ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO DAZ FROM ME I downloaded Motura's Viki1 low res boy MT from freestuff. But it only has a Cr2 file in it. I got V1 mesh from computer arts, but I am inexperienced enough that I don't know how to think about using a lonely cr2 file with her. Motura wrote me that s/he does not know english and SUggested that I write the forum for help, but that it should work. A forum member also suggested that it should work. I wrote the forum and there is confusion about whether low res is the same as reduced res? Can you clarify? I placed the Motura CR2 file in its own new folder under figures as someone suggested and loaded the computer arts viki automatically in "DAZ people." When I click on my new folder I only get can't finds and out of memory messages for feedback. So no luck. Perhaps a key question is do I have viki1 low res or not from the computer arts disc? Or am I wasting my time? I also got an offer from you by e-mail for a reduced res viki and michael. I tried the links but did not find the models. But I did not persist because I thought perhaps I already had the free models on my computer arts disc. Do I? If not, how do I get the models offered in the e-mail? Can you please clarify the situation for me? THE RESPONSE FROM DAZ TO THE ABOVE E-MAIL NOW FOLLOWS A ".cr2" file by itself will not work, unless you have the rest of the files for the figure installed. Low resolution is a detail-scaled version of a figure, meant for slower computers or people who didn't want to download the full version. The reduced resolution is a pared down version that we've been distributing free in selected places. The reduced and low-res figures aren't interchangable. When the link takes you to the free archive, are you able to log in to the page, then try the link again? If you aren't authenticated, the page does ask you to log in before you can continue to the free download. Vicky Tolonen Technical Support MY RESPONSE TO DAZ'S RESPONSE ABOVE NOW FOLLOWS Sorry, but this still does not help! One problem is that logging in after I click on the link still does not get me to the free v and M meshes, but only entry to the weekly model and the archives. And I cannot find any v or m meshes in either place. But anyway, it is not clear that I even need them if they are RR as stated in the e-mail offer, and if RR is not the same as low resolution. So if I understand correctly that I would need low resolution then how is it available anyway? I can't find it anywhere. Moreover there is the question of why some people are telling me that the cr2 file should work alone in a folder, but you say it will not. Can you clarify? THE END (SO FAR)
