Do i ever really only do one thing at a time? LOL Ok, i was curious one night.....so i started playing with snow...seeing how "real" i could get it to look.... and this is what i came up with.... Stars added post in psp..everything else is bryce render...the only imported model, are the post thingies i tossed together in wings in like 2 minutes as a start of something i never did get finished...lol (lol and yes, there's that house again...hahahah) What'cha all think? Jen

Really great start, I'd go with a warm golden glow in the windows and on the snow close to the house...:) The snow looks terrific, terrain? And the mat?

I love that snow! You've created another beautiful scene. As for nitpicks... the two post thingies look too big to me, hogging too much attention. The footprints are fantastic! Maybe some disrupted snow mixed in with the footprints? Again, I love that snow!

Quest ( ) posted Sun, 07 December 2003 at 11:50 PM

I agree with Zhann, warm light eminating from within the house reflecting on the snow outside and the glow that creates. I love that snow also, great job on tne snow as with the house, and the scene is just wonderful.

The snow looks pretty good, maybe a slight bump on it would be an improvement? It looks a little too smooth.

JC_01 ( ) posted Mon, 08 December 2003 at 12:04 AM

Thanks guys ;-} The terrain in something i just kinda threw together, made small hills, lowered the depth, cut a path through the middle, then eroded, and smoothed....it looked kinda choppy so i upped the depth just a tad and spot clicked along both sides for the additional smoothing inside the cut path... The footprints are a negative mesh i drew shaped like a foot then booleaned with the terrain...lol i didn't even count how many but they lead almost to the house shhh dun tell, they don't go all the way lol MuddyGrubb, yea, i was going to make an arch, but just never got it finished...i'll lower those into the ground some do they dont' show, and i also wanna work on the snow piles along them and the pine trees some more also... as for the mat...I just tweaked the default bryce snow mat, ALOT....if you guys want it (i know how hard they can be to find) sooooooo heh... i uploaded it to my geocities page for you guys, if ya want it... it's zipped tho cause apparently geocities don't like straight .mat files...lol Direct link to file Or, if geocities is being picky, and you can't get it that way... go Here and click on snow mat on the bottom left. Your scene looks beyond cool, cold even(brrrrrrr!) I love your footprints in the snow, excellent effect. Thanks for the cool snow mat, your store looks really great and professional. :-)

"Cool" scene. I haven't seen snow in ages. It is good to reminisce.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 08 December 2003 at 4:32 AM

This is great Jen. The snow looks so crips and new and it does look really cold. For a wip it's is really going somewhere. 8) Catlin

JC_01, Man, that's got Christms written all over it! a mule deer or Sanity Clause riding on his sled with the "eight tiny reindeer" might complete the look, but it looks fine as it is. Very Nice! - TJ

I'd leave the snow smooth. It looks exactly like that after a fresh showfall. However, I would add some on the trees and the roof of the cabin (granted, the heat from the cabin would make it melt off the roof faster, but it would look good with some know on it, and maybe some icicles?

Could be worse, could be raining.

thanks guys! danamo, thanks :D can you believe the only font face font on that site at all is the words "Snow mat" LOL I really loved that font i downloaded for psp, that all the text on the site is actually images..lol was fun to do! Blog, bump on snow does look good, however, in this one, i kinda of envisioned a fresh falled snow, that has yet to see the sun...although there's some small trails cutting through it from the wildlife around... :) Thanks Catlin and Bryster! lol all the snow we got this last week kind of inspired some of this..LOL TJ, if i had poser, i'd "think" about it...grins maybe some lights on the trees to substitute? Ricky, i was thinking of toning down th elights just a tad, and adding some type if christmas lights around the house, and some of the trees, and they'd look pretty cool offset from a snow covered roof.. ;) If anyone wants the terrain, i'll post what i got for it...although it's really nothing special...LOL Jen

lol here ya go ;) Jen

You know, I think I'd lose the stumps ... they just detract from the image (having no clear purpose). If you put lights on the house, then do maybe one tree ... but don't overdo it. Leave yourself a focus for the scene.

Could be worse, could be raining.

I love the snow..excellent job. Now I would put some snow on the trees. No?

JC_01 ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 11:19 AM

the pine trees as of now, each are two trees...one with the green needles, and one with the snow mat for the second set of needles, this second tree is shifted up half a point, and towards the camera...to give the impression of snow covered needles, however not all show the same, and will need a tad readjusting...i will also be adding clumps to the branches and along the trunk of the main tree to the right....the pillars have been lowered alot, and i've even begin to play with different lighting, tho i like this the best so far.... I will work on it again later this afternoon, and hope to have a repost by morning...(this evening, we're helping a friend do some work in her kitchen of her new house) Everyone is welcome to the snow mat and the terrain, if ya want em, tho i'd have to ask...LOL since i hope to put this in the challenge this month, lol keep the terrain for something else...LOL feel free to use the snow tho, if it works for you... Thanks everyone, Jen
