I've been away from the community for some time. But as I've taken a year of, I'm using Bryce again. For some extra cash I though I might try and sell the stuff of my following image: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=301456&Start=1&Artist=cybrbeast&ByArtist=Yes I've put the object file of the christmas ball, the scene file and the rendered+postwork image up for sale in one package of $5. It's pending upload now. Do you think it's a good deal? Do you see anything in my gallery that might be sale-worthy for $5+ ? Scene files, objects, or maybe prints? And one unrelated question. Does anyone know of a freeware program that converts *.max into something Bryce 5 can use?

Best thing is do a search of the marketplace and see what other items in this category go for, what's included with them, etc, that would probably give you better input as to price, etc.... On the.max conversion, I haven't found one yet, maybe else someone else knows of one.....

I have to say though, it looks great. Like I would pay for something like that :)

I haven't been able to find anything out there that will convert .max files either. This from the Polytrans/Nugraf file converter site-"(**) You must own a copy of 3D Studio MAX in order to read or write .max format".

cybrbeast ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 2:59 AM

Thanks draculaz That's really f*cked up, that the owners of 3dmax would screw the whole CAD community by making unconvertable files. Aren't there any paid programs that do this?

cybrbeast ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 3:13 AM

I've been looking through the market place. But it doesn't seem too useful. Because I can't find any info on how many times a particular item has been sold. Would one of the sellers here mind sharing some info about their income generated by a few specific items?

Deep exploration is good for fixing 3ds files that have been exported from max and have got messed up.

Cybreast, you can find help in the Product Showcase Forum and later when your product is approved in the merchants forum. J.

Thanks! I'll check it out

I saw a utility called max2obj for sale for a few dollars (15$ or 25$). Do a goggle search.

draculaz ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 8:58 AM

i think the reason why you can't convert them is because max files paint the textures through light sources (from what i've heard), whereas 3ds has them mapped. either way, if you know someone with 3dsmax, you could always ask them to do a quick conversion for you :D

faveral ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 10:59 AM

max2obj is a plugin for 3DS Max, you would still need Max to use it. Max files do not typically contain vertex information, like other formats do (although they can) It usually contains the formula if you will, of how a model was made, and it more or less recreates that model using the saved "recipe" every time you load a max file. Hence the reason why a super smoothed model saved in 3DS format weighs 50 megs when the same model saved as max is a few kB. The max file just says "smooth 3 times". Same thing when you clone objects in Max, the Max file just says "Clone it, put it here and scale it this way", a 3DS file will write every single last vertex, normal etc... I really don't know of any soft that will convert .max to anything, other than 3DS Max itself.

I have 3DS max at work and would happily convert it for you (take about 2 minutes lol). On one condition I get to render this very nice ornament!

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 7:18 PM

Can you get a demo of Max? Some demo's will allow you to save and if there was a demo it might be a way to get all the Max models you want converted. Although I think you'd have to amass quite a few before you installed the demo. 8) Catlin

Vile that sounds good. I'll send the file. :) Is it easy to edit an item once it hits the stores?

cybrbeast ( ) posted Thu, 11 December 2003 at 10:16 PM

I sent it via the renderosity E-mail. Great idea of you. Great community.

Vile ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 10:22 AM

I sent you and IM as to what email to send it to.
