Subject: lace transparencies

Just bought some seamless lace from the MarketPlace, but there are no instructions on how to apply them. Can anyone help? Thanks

Put some clothes on your model, then go to the material editor and select the part of your clothing that you want to be lace, then load the lace as a material, er I think load the lace as a transparency. I've never done it, but that's the first thing I would try. don't forget to turn the transparency sliders all the way up. Love esther

Rachel, that hasn't quite got me where I want to be. Guess I should mention I'm using P5. Thanks.

What kind of effect are you looking for?

Karen, I want to change the brim of a hat - currently solid - into lace (see-through, I hope) for a baby's bonnet.

OK, I would select the brim in the materials list, make the diffuse colour to match whatever the rest of the hat colour is. change the Transparency value to 1.0 and also the Transparency edge to 1.0, and make sure Trans Fall off is 0. Plug the lace tile into the transparency node. You will probably have to change the U_scale and V_scale of the trans map, depending on how big the tile is (I mean, how often it repeats, or if it is just one tile.) Does that help?

Karen, I think I am close - and I think the U-scale and V-scale are my problem - but to what do I change them? Currently they are both set at 1. Thanks, Paul

Try making them 0.5 each (they need to match or the texture will be stretched in one dimension.) See how it looks at 0.5 then go smaller to make the lace finer, or higher to make it "bigger". The change of scale won't show in the preview window - you'll have to render to see how it looks.

Yes, actually .1 did it. Exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!
