Of the 31 available software forums here, this is the only one with a double name (Carrara/Raydream). Carrara is now at version 3 (and going strong) while Raydream has been a dead app. for more than six years. It's time to let go of the past and embrace the here and now (and the future). Drop Raydream from the name and make this the Carrara Studio forum.

If droping Raydream from the name is not an option (or if it just seems too extreme a change for some) I suggest we at least ammend the title, by adding Infini-D, making it the Carrara/Raydream/Infini-D forum.

After all, Carrara is the successor of both Raydream and Infini-D so to have one in the title and not the other makes no sense. There is no stand alone Infini-D forum here so where are those who use(d) it supposed to go? Sure, it's also been dead for six years (with the exception of maybe Rustboy) but since that's not kept Raydream out of the title it shouldn't disqualify Infini-D either.

Who do we see about making this change??

This is an interesting issue. The renaming of the forum would be done by the staff here at Renderosity and they would do it based on the responses and needs of the members. As the mod of the forum, I would attempt to arbitrate the issue. We do have Raydream users who read the forum but don't actively participate here (lurkers). The gallery is another issue as I believe we may get a handful of images in the gallery a year. If my memory serves me, we probably get one to two Raydream questions per year (or less). I can't really tell how much the Raydream lurkers benefit from the forum due to the lack of posting. It would be my hope that Raydream users would continue to read the forum after the name change. I would guess the number of NEW Raydream users per year is so ludicrously small that we practically don't help any of those people (if they exist). That would mean that legacy Raydream users would still participate at their same level (and would ALWAYS be welcome). In terms of gallery postings, Raydream users might feel they need to post in the other apps gallery. Not sure how they would feel about that. They may feel slighted. There are also Raydream users here who post and I just didn't know they're Raydream users. This also clouds the issues surrounding my personal knowledge of the Raydream activity here. Splitting the forum into a new Raydream forum is also a possibility. Conclusion, If there is a strong feeling that a name change to the forum is warrented, then I'll consult the staff and pursue it. There may be issues surrounding the coding which runs the site and I have no idea how benign or serious those are but I want everybody to know there might be a problem from that angle (don't know yet). -Kix

There are still some guys using Ray Dream. My vote would be to leave the name alone until there's some mechanism in place to direct them somewhere for Ray Dream resources (if any).

I don't think there are enough Eovia customers here yet for this forum to need splitting. There's not much traffic as it is, compared to the more popular programs. www.shonner.com

Our resource CD contains a fair bit of Raydream stuff, yes? It may not be much, but it is a valuable resource that might get overlooked by any wayward Raydreamer who skips over a Carrara-only forum

Here's an idea , have Carrara in big bold letters ,then have Raydream/Infini-d in much smaller letters after it. Just a thought. Mike

Ummmm..... pretty much everone here is an Eovia customer. If you use Carrara you are an Eovia customer. If you use Raydream you are nobodies customer as it isn't manufactured or supported by anyone, anymore. I don't recall seeing any questions here regarding Raydream. They are all Carrara questions (which means they are all Eovia customers).

If you split this into two forums I gurantee that the Carrara one will thrive while the Raydream one remains as dead as the app itself.

If you want to generate more traffic here, if you want Carrara to become more popular then forget about Raydream. Let it go. Keeping it's name attached here will only serve to hinder Carrara's acceptance.

It should remain the same according to this thread. There are issues that seem to concern Raydream users Like Kix pointed out. Leaving the name alone does not hurt anyone. The best solution in my opinion comes from Mike: have Carrara in big bold letters ,then have Raydream/Infini-d in much smaller letters after it. (or under it --- like Graviton's banner design --- vote for Graviton's banner and the problem is solved). I change my vote to agree with Mike's idea.

What was that stema? All I heard was the sound of a sheep. Raydream is a concern of no one who lives in the present. Anyone who doen't upgrade deserves to be left behind. "Leaving the name alone does not hurt anyone." It hurts everyone who wants to see Carrara prosper. Attaching it's name to a long dead app is not the way to do it. I don't understand why you all refuse to give it up. Are you afraid you might hurt Raydream's feelings? Do you still use Photoshop 3? Illustrator 5? A better app has come along and replaced Raydream. There's no benefit to keeping it around. However, as I said earlier if you can't possibley live with the removal of Raydream then add Infini-D to the name. Sure it makes no sense to have two dead apps in the title but keeping Raydream for the above mentioned reasons and not adding Infini-D would make you hippocrites.

Mr. TheGigaShadow people count even if they can't run with the fastest in the pack (or disagree with you). Leaving a little notation for the RayDream/Infini-D users can't hurt anyone in the Carrara forum. I have noticed that excellent and very current Carrara information is fully addressed on this forum. (hardly ever is there a RayDream post) I think Gravitons banner addresses everyone's needs while giving all the impact to current Carrara users. I am no sheep but I am not intellectually closed (like you) to other peoples needs or suggestions (even if I don't see their need at first). I am willing to look at different points of view and have the courage to change my mind. Besides the RayDream and Infini-D lurkers might find that Carrara is a great upgrade for them as they browse this excellent forum. I think it helps sell the slowpokes on choosing Carrara.

Eovia still mentions Raydream and Infini-D on their home page of their website. Eovia seems to think it matters. Who really cares ANYWAY. As long as the forum continues to put forth great Carrara information like it always does. It is the best Carrara forum on the web. This thread is a real WASTE OF TIME because it is not addressing any functionality or tips on Carrara (sounds like what the author [TheGigaShadow] of this thread was complaining about). Did I hear the word hyppocrit from TheGigaShadow? LOL TheGigaShadow it is not nice to call names TheGigaShadow. I don't call you names on this forum and this is a perfect opportunity to do so, however, I will pass on the elementary school activity that you like to engage in. TheGigaShadow -- Because you are so HOT on this topic maybe you should start hounding Eovia for mentioning Raydream and Infini-D and insist they remove it from their website too. LOL. What a joke!
