Subject: Poser 4 Library File Size

jjoker ( ) posted Tue, 23 December 2003 at 9:59 PM ยท edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 2:39 AM

Hi... I have Poser 4, Windows XP, 512MB RAM and approx. 1.7GB Virtual Memory. My problem is to many files or folders in my Pose Library (approx. 300 sub folders and 1GB of files). Poser will open the first 150 sub folders, however any folders located beyound that will not open. The obvious solution would be to delete some of the files, however I would like to find a better solution that would allow me to keep all the files. Any help would be appreciated.

PBoost will let you divide your folders up into "banks" you can switch between. That helps. Or can you consolidate some of your folders? Keep the files, but move them together.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought about consolidating the files and may go that way ? What is PBoost ?

What you also can do (and what I do) is clean up your folders from time to time. Deinstal those you hardley ever use and combine others. I've combined all my hair mat files into 3 folders instead of the seperate 15 folders or so they werte in before. The problem you describe ocurs when you reach 255 folders in a library. If you keep under that there shouldn't be a problem anymore. Cleaning up folders might not be a task to look forward to, especialy with that many folders, but if you do it every now or then it will not only resolve your problem but also make things easier to find. Cheers, Axe.

Yet another solution (not for the faint of heart) is to move some of your pose files into the camera file. The biggest hassel will be changing the .pz2 file extention.

PBoost is a program that sort of adds another layer of file management to Poser. For instance, I have all of my Vicky 3 related MAT files in one "bank", and all of my, say, Mike 2 MATs in another. If I'm working on a scene with Vicky 3, I load up her bank, and I don't have to sort through any Mike 2 stuff I'm not using. On the other hand, if I'm doing a scene with both, I can just switch between banks as I need them. It's in the marketplace here if you want to take a look.

FyreSpiryt - Axe - TygerCub.... Thank you much for the input. I figured to many folders was the problem, but was not sure what the max was, now I know I need to get below 255 max folders. I'm not looking forward to cleaning all them files, but yes it has to be done (maybe I can talk my wife into doing it ?) I will check into PBoost, sounds like a handy utility. Please have a safe and happy holiday and thanks again for the help
